The victory was achieved with a depleted team due to holidays; Broom and Barnes scored the goals.

The Nationwide Conference Annual Golf Tournament took place today at Tame in Oxfordshire. Boston United were represented by Chairman Pat Malkinson, Vice-Chairman Andrew Malkinson and Manager Steve Evans.

Tomorrow the Nationwide Conference hold a Commercial Managers Meeting at Pride Park, Derby. General Manager John Blackwell and Chief Executive Kevan Muggleston will represent Boston United.

York Street, Academy

8 May For at least the next two seasons Boston United intend to remain at York Street, this will be reviewed later in line with current and future stadium requirements. Chairman, Pat Malkinson, believes that sometime in the future Boston United will have to move to a new stadium as it may not be possible to adapt York Street to meet future stadium regulations.

The whole of the York Street Stand will now become the away supporters area and work will be done to the dressing rooms, directors area and terracing barriers to bring them up to the required standard.

Tonight the Academy have defeated Lincoln United 2-1 to win the Jackson Workwear Charity Cup again. After 90 minutes the score was 1-1, the Academy then scored a golden goal 10 minutes into extra time.

6 May Steve Evans has won the Conference News Manager of the Month award for April/May, during the five week period Boston United had for wins and three draws from eight matches which produced an average of 2.83 points.

Boston United have applied to enter a reserve team in the Central Conference League next season.

Following a meeting with the Football Licensing Authority on Thursday 3 May 2001, in order to achieve an acceptable ground capacity in line with the club's ambitions, effective from the 2001/2002 season the York Street Stand will be designated the away supporters area. This means that the Director's Box, Visiting Director's Box and the Match Sponsors/Guests Area will have to be moved to the original area intended when the Stantons Stand was built. As a consequence, Boston United have to regretfully advise that Red Block Rows F, G and H numbers 35 to 46 inclusive and Yellow Block Rows G and H numbers 1 to 12 inclusive will not be available for renewal. Boston United apologise for any inconvenience caused by the late change to the Season Ticket renewal procedures.

Promotion Places

20 April Conference to Discuss Football League Offer of Two Promotion Places

The Nationwide Conference has reviewed the Football League’s offer of two promotion places at a meeting of its Board of Directors yesterday. The eight man Board has requested an urgent meeting with the League to negotiate the proposal and agree a fair and acceptable financial arrangement for relegated clubs. The talks are aimed at introducing the new promotion structure next season.

As part of the negotiation process, meetings with the Football Association – who have been involved with the discussions from the initial stages - are scheduled next week to help clear the path for increased promotion between the Conference and the Football League. Additional talks with the FA Premier League are also scheduled in order to determine a universally accepted formula for calculating ‘Parachute Payments’ to clubs relegated at all levels.

Conference Chairman Bill King stated: "The proposition for increased promotion places to the Football League is now fully accepted in the game. The next stage is to visit the parachute payment policy more carefully and arrive at a policy that sits comfortably at all levels of football – from the Premier League to the Football League, from the League to the Conference. We have a very tight deadline to get this done in time for next season and the Conference, League and FA must work closely to get everything finalised ahead of our AGMs this summer."

Forum

20 January At the Forum last night the panel was: John Blackwell, Trevor Quow, Steve Evans and Pat Malkinson; the major announcements were:

  1. Boston United will be full-time with effect from Monday 9 July 2001; this is dependent upon the club remaining in the Nationwide Conference for next season.
  2. There are plans to either re-develop the York Street Stand or re-locate the club to a new site. The ground was inspected by the Football League two months ago and was given a B grade, even though there are other grounds in the Conference with worse facilities which have an A Grade. An A grade is required to enter the Football League and the LDV vans Trophy, therefore, at the moment if Boston United won the Conference they would not be promoted and they finish in the top eight of the Conference they would not enter the LDV vans Trophy next season. Part of the Football League criteria is that all four sides of the ground are self-supporting for turnstiles, toilets, catering facilities, etcetera, and the Stantons Stand is blocked to the outside world by the Matalan store. The inspection required the turnstiles, crush barriers, perimeter fencing, toilets and dressing rooms to be improved. KMB Architects of Kirton have drawn up plans to re-build the York Street Stand at a cost of £1.5m. It is not possible to use the new Athletics Stadium, which is to be built on the Boardsides.
  3. There will be full-time YTS players next season.
  4. Next season there will be a First Team, Reserves, Academy and YTS.
  5. Sky Television is planning to broadcast a weekly programme about the Conference commencing on Thursday 1 February until the end of March.

The Conference are urgently seeking a joint meeting with the Football Association and The Football League for the purpose of reaching a satisfactory conclusion that allows additional promotion from the Conference at the end of the season 2001/2002. The disruption caused by the national fuel shortage means that sufficient stewards cannot make it to the ground for the game.
