Listening to BBC Lincs Sport tonight it was interesting to hear AM reveal again the good job he had done at Boston .

David Newton also on discussing the appointment of a new manager .

Most enlightening was Mark Hone ,  I think Mark is streets ahead of any of the other sports journalist on Lincs Sport with his constructive and forthright comments combined with his non-league knowledge ,
Briefly what Mark said was that we are in a real relegation fight ,  2 mid-fielders and 2 centre half's are the main priority adding that he though our 3 forwards against Salford were decent but we need 7 new players to get the team up to scratch .

It's one thing being able to tell everyone else what they need, but sadly Mark Hone didn't walk the walk at Spalding, it was not long before he was told to walk.
Not a manager for Boston.

Richard Mooney had resigned his position from Solihull Moors, or is that old news.

.

Richard Money ? Just quit at Solihull after 26 days. He knows this level of football well.

  Just an 'archive' question ..

Why was Don Donovan replaced by Jim Smith ?

I think it was down to the poor performance in the first season (68/9) in the Northern Premier League when Boston United only finished in 14th place out of 20 teams.

I think it was felt that Donovan wasn't the best manager to cope with the more physical approach adopted by the other clubs in the Northern Premier League - see the "Classic Game" write up of the first game in the NPL against Macclesfield.

I remember those bone crunching games against the Macclesfield Maulers. In particular, they had a player called Fidler who played in that epic game. He did everything possible to antagonise the Boston fans with his hard "tackling" physical challenges. In those days, players got away with murder.

Remember Leo Skeete Ted ?   A prolific scorer who played for several northern non league clubs , capable of scoring a goal and getting a red card before half time .

I think we tried to sign him but was unsuccessful ,  pretty sure he played for Runcorn a team that would make Tom Denton and NFU look graceful.

I have a chap that works with me, and his surname is Fidler.
I think some of them live in the Long Sutton area, perhaps some relation,as they are all know for being tough hardmen.

Leo Skeete was in the Mossley side that beat us in the FA Trophy semi's in 1980 drawing away 1-1 loosing the 2nd leg 1-2. Bobby Brown scoring both of our goals
