On the carpet
Some people will be able solve this week's mindbender in their heads, others will need bits of paper and some scissors to try out their solutions!
The Fulchester United vice presidents' lounge contains a 9m x 12m carpet with an 8m x 1m hole in the middle where it goes around a narrow table for members to rest their drinks on. The lounge is going to be rebuilt and will now contain an area that is 10m x 10m. Can you work out how to cut the existing carpet into two pieces (no more and no less) so that it can be sewn together to make a solid 10m x 10m carpet for use in the new lounge.
