Off topic - Broadband in Boston
« on: June 23, 2009, 02:14:13 PM »
I'm cheap but my old man is even cheaper so I offered to pay for a broadband connection. Is there a cheap broadband provider in Boston that does not require O2 phone, Orange phone, Sky TV etc? I did a little hunting and found that TalkTalk have LLU'd the Boston exchange but care unable to take on customers at LLU prices.

I'm trying to find a package including line rental, broadband, evening and weekend calls for TalkTalk type prices about £17.

How'd you calculate that price?

The best I can find is £9.79 plus line rental £11.00

What does LLU'd mean and what's it all about?

LLU is local loop unbundled, it means a telephone provider can have their own hardware in a telephone exchange.

My mother-in-law in South Wales went for a Tiscali package just before Christmas.

It was broadband, line rental, inclusive weekend UK calls and she kept her existing phone number. It was about £15 / month and it has been working fine.

I presume it works in Boston as there are a few Tiscali accounts registered on here!

I have a mobile broadband usb dongle from 3 during their recent postage costs only promo.

Trouble is I don't want to use 3 as I want to use it in Italy and it would cost me a premiership wage to pay for the roaming charges.

Can anyone lead me in the direction of how I can unlock it and so I can put an italian mobile broadbannd sim in it?

I didn't calculate it, Orange did!  My current Orange Broadband costs me £17.60 - for the extra penny I could get free weekend calls!!!   But it would mean taking out a new contract.
