Drewe Broughton
« on: February 16, 2010, 05:16:12 PM »

Drewe Broughton has made a habit of joining teams that ultimately get relegated from the Football League. He's played for Kidderminster, Rushden, Chester, ourselves and Wrexham.

Now he's joined Lincoln City  ;D

Always thought that he was better than he seemed to be recognised for.
Good old fashioned centre forward. Won most balls that were hoofed up to him and tied up the centre halves. Did the physical work and made the gaps for the ball players. Not everyones cup of tea but that was his game. Ended up as top scorer too (although the total wasn't that impressive that season)
Also seemed a thorough professional, along with his team mates at the time, right through to the bitter end under very difficult conditions.

Man he must be slow now, what 3 yrs on.  Always remember that run at the end of the Mansfield game in the final season where we were willing him on towards the end where we were and it seemed to take weeks for him to get from the half way line into the box.  He was absolutely fcuked but still kept doing as much donkey work as possible to help the team.

He was class for us that year, just a shame some people don't realise that it isn't always the glamour players that get you points in vital games.

So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.

He will be remembered for the penalty he gave away at Wrexham ( only the ref thought it was ).  cracking workhorse I liked him.  Cannot forget that open goal he missed at home, even i could have scored and I was the worst player to put on a pair of boots. ;D

I always liked him  too. The last game I saw us win in the league was at Mansfield and that was largely down to him running the line on his own...

That sending off at Torquay is something I'll always remember him for. To get sent off for time-wasting in the process of being substituted has got to be pretty unique. That was a good battling performance, earning a draw with nine men after David Galbraith also saw red.

Indeed, sent off for timewasting when the watch had stopped. Intriguing

He played well on Tuesday evening and I reckon he is a good signing for the IMPS, just what they need to ensure their football league survival.

Lincoln City have had some good initiatives for the past 2 games what with adults for £10 last Sat and kids for a quid Tues evening.

This has happened again tonight, at Doncaster.

Quote
Notts County striker Kwame Thomas was sent off while being substituted in a goalless draw at Doncaster Rovers.

The County striker, already on a booking, was being replaced by Billy Daniels in the 87th minute when referee Richard Clark showed him a second yellow for going off too slowly.

Drewe always insisted on wearing his shirt a size too small so that opponents could not get hold of it when challenging for the ball.
