Ebbsfleet is definitely right up there as one of the worst games I've ever seen, but I still think that goalless draw at Gloucester a couple of seasons ago just about edges it.
The "worst" games for me aren't necessarily heavy defeats. For example you'd think Fylde 9, Boston 2 would rank up there in my top five but actually Fylde were bloody good that day and were a good watch. Plus we did score first!
No, for me the worst games are the kind where you feel your enthusiasm for football ebbing away as you watch two hapless sides failing to produce anything of any merit, and literally nothing happens.
My list has one solitary goal:
1. Gloucester 0, Boston 0 (21/22 I think). Absolutely diabolical game of football. Mood not helped by Johnny and Chris B telling me they'd paid half what I had for their train fares using this new fangled thing called "split tickets"
2. Ebbsfleet 0, Boston 0. Largely similar to the Gloucester game. I have nothing good to say about it. Ebbsfleet is an extraordinarily bleak place, too. Didn't help. Friendly staff though.
3. Ecuador 0, England 1. 2006 World Cup. Drove (or at least Adam Upsall did) all the way to Germany to be rewarded by one of the most dire England performances in living memory. Beckham scored so we did at least win but my God it was crap.
4. Oxford United 0, Boston 0. Back in the old Evans days. Just a shockingly bad game, devoid of any real action. I somehow managed to write a match report about it though:
http://www.bufc.drfox.org.uk/N221005.html5. England 0, Holland 0. Villa Park. 2004 or 2005 or something like that. Nothing happened. There was some kind of charity shirt on display.
