Cully sacked
« on: October 28, 2024, 01:54:01 PM »
Well, that's the end of that then.

In the summer I said to Dunc that Cully would be gone by Bonfire Night. Any chance of some bonus prediction league points?

What (who) next, I wonder? 'Mutual decision'?

Cully and Ten Hag on the same day. Job swap?

The disappointment and pressure looked like it was really getting to him. The 2 week break may have persuaded the board. Would liked to have seen him try and turn it around a bit longer. Hopefully it was a mutual decision. We shouldn’t forget his achievements at the club and thank him for that. Amazing times at Alfreton, Scunthorpe and Brackley.

Spalding Manager?

I hope not, a horrible man.

I agree. We've had enough of that sort in the past. He didn't cover himself with glory at Scunny. I posted recently that I thought Cully was losing it personally, but I don't call for a manager's head. I wish him well and thank him for getting us up. Now the decision has been taken, we need to get someone in who knows this level.

I’m sorry to see Cully go but have to agree that things certainly started to get to him I thought he looked a beaten man in his interview following the Eastleigh game even though he had the opportunity to be upbeat after the team’s performance.
Perhaps National League is a step too much for him, a similar experience to what he had at Kings Lynn.

Spalding Manager?

Jimmy Dean was out of his depth in National League North.

Sorry to see Cully go.  Thought Newton would have given him more time.  Would have thought he had that in the bank after gaining promotion last season.   Strain was showing in his post match interviews.  Was never great in front of the camera though.

What happens now with Bas and Joe Simpson ?

Next man up ? Have a feeling it could be the return of Paul Hurst.  Or an outside shout for the Corby Manager Gaz Setchell.   Doing a job there for sure.

Hope & Glory at 6pm has an interview with Newts - should give some clarity of Bazza and Joe.

Bitterly disappointed with this decision , after turning the club round from the bottom of NLN thought Cully would have been given the 2 home games and Woking away after the Eastleigh performance. It seems the 2 week break sealed his fate. Sam Osborne spoke of the players wanting to repay him but now won't get the chance as I'll imagine the team will get split up with a new boss and new ideas.
Paul Hurst is currently managing L1 Shrewsbury , Jimmy Dean no thanks, Danny Butterfield too inexperienced. I'm at a loss to think of any current non league managers that are an improvement.

Sorry to see Cully depart - perhaps he deserved a little more time to try and turn things round, but as we know football is results driven and I'm not surprised at todays announcement.  He always came across on interview as a genuinely good bloke and I liked the way he usually stepped up after a poor result but deferred to one of his coaching staff after a good one.   Thank you Cully for what you achieved for us, and the very best of good fortune to you in the future.

Who next?     Perhaps Joint managers (shorty & shouty Mk 2?) - Gareth Dean and Martin Woods would be OK.

I'm sure Gareth Dean could do it on his own, with his own assistant. Maybe wouldn't want to leave Brackley, though.

A game too late but at least the right thing has been done. You could tell Cully was getting more and more frustrated as the recent weeks went by. Should have walked after the Fylde match but a point at Eastleigh was his swansong. Thanks for getting us into the National League though.
