Southend A

Was like we'd won a raffle to play there. Or an fa cup tie where theres 3 or 4 leagues difference
Think our midfield and attackers may need to re-familiarise themselves with what a football looks like because they saw none of it tonight
A tough 90 minutes that

Yep similar to Rochdale and fgr looked like we were playing against a team from a higher league. All 3 will likely be challenging for promotion towards the top end of the league at the end of the season. Tamworth Saturday now looks huge need to get points off those likely to be in bottom half with us. Don't feel like we've replaced k Mooney and Knowles lad from Peterborough hasn't yet made much impact.

The most worrying thing is the 3 sides we have been comfortably beaten by have only beaten us (although only Rochdale have lost). That would indicate, albeit from a small sample, that they are the norm rather than the exception.

We’ve not laid a glove on any of them. Can’t fault the effort of the players and we all thought this would be a huge step up for us,  it we’ve got to start to get points otherwise we’ll be back in NLN going back to away grounds with crowds of 600 (and much fewer) rather than 6,000.

Agree with all of the above and don't have loads further to add.

I think the concern for me is how easily we've been getting beaten, we're not competitive really. If we were being edged out by a single goal and causing opposition problems it wouldn't be such a concern. At this stage it does look like we're making up the numbers. Are there four teams worse than us in this league? I don't think so at the moment.

Well, there are three other teams who look as equally hopeless so far - if that helps?

The worry is, of course, we are rapidly cut adrift from the teams above our little relegation squad.

The old adage is "give it ten games" - the tenth game is Altrincham away on 21 September. Looking at the fixtures, as things are, I wouldn't be surprised if we landed there with only three points to our name.

My only consolation after the long trip to Southend was that they looked a far better side than FGR. I wondered before the game why were were starting with two big blokes up front, and my fears were realised. Teams know Cully insists on playing from the back, so they press. All this means is that someone gets too much under pressure and has to hoik it forward and we lose possession. We must find more variation and move faster. We are painfully slow taking throw-ins for example, with few players if any creating an outlet. We have some strengths, but I don't believe we are playing to them ( or starting with the right team).
