End of National League on TNT Sports?
« on: July 25, 2024, 10:32:37 AM »
Unless this story from last Friday has now moved on, we might not be on TV this season.

"The National League’s four-year deal with TNT Sports for live rights and highlights expired at the end of the season and all the indications are that the two sides have failed to reach an agreement to extend it.

TNT inherited the contract when it took over BT Sport’s portfolio of channels and neither the National League or TNT Sports have made any comment so far on whether it would continue into the new season.

But the clearest indication yet that the partnership is now at an end has come with the National League removing TNT Sports’ logo from its images of partners and sponsors on the foot of its official website.

Before BT Sport and TNT Sports, the National League was shown on Setanta and at one stage Sky. The league has its own streaming service to show top division and selected North and South league midweek games and others which fall outside the 3pm Saturday TV blackout period.

It’s not yet clear yet whether the league will attempt to secure a new TV partner. TNT had the rights to show up to 45 games a season and also produced a weekly highlights show which was also available on YouTube."

I expect that they may move kick offs to allow live streaming through National League TV... but you'd think they'd have announced that by now!

I think that would go down like a pint of cold sick.

Even as an exile I'm quite happy to leave everything be: let the Saturday 3pms lie, and stream games that fall outside of any blackout. Canny fans will find a way to VPN the Saturday fixtures if they really want.

Match going fans (particularly away fans) are more important than the likes of me.

I followed the link, and started reading.
As soon as they used ‘leverage’ as a verb I was out of there.

Basically, all that's changed is the TV channel, and that DAZN will have some sort of management/input of National League TV.

Anyone got any idea how much notice they have to give to change kick-off times?

I don't want to book advance train tickets if we might suddenly be playing at 5.30. Or leave it till the last minute to book rail tickets and miss out on the cheap fares.

In either of these scenarios I'd probably just not go to games I would if I could be certain they were a 3pm kick-off...

From the Non League Paper:

"MI: It's important for clubs and fans to understand that there will be plenty of notice. We aim to have a significant period where people know in advance what the games are. We've obviously got to get it kicked off so we need to be sensible around the start of the season. But once we're live and moving forward, we're looking that five weeks in advance you'll know what the games are."

The game between Gateshead and Yeovil on August 24th has been moved to 12.30pm already, but no confirmation this is for DAZN (yet).

Gateshead v Yeovil  crazy one to move to an early kick off. It's a 6 and half hour drive if traffic is good, would have to allow at least 8 hours driving time for a bit of traffic etc. I'm sure the team would stop overnight. But for fans only die hards making that trip.

Yes and it's before the blackout kicks in so we can actually watch it! As of the week after, we won't be able to...

I have been trying to buy a match pass for this weekend but the NLTV website will not allow me to login to the account I used all last season. In desperation I tried to register again using a different email address but this would not operate either. I sent a help message to NLTV help site but no response. Has anyone else had problems?

You definitely have to re-register, they restarted the platform - presumably because of the DAZN involvement in running it. I'm logged in fine, though...

Might be worth clearing out all cookies for "nationalleaguetv.com" on your browser.

Thanks Pilgrim86 and Doc. Yes discovered today that need to reregister as you say probably because of the new platform. Also website only recently became live. Registered today with no problem.
