England Captaincy
« on: February 06, 2010, 02:58:47 PM »

What do people make of the whole John Terry situation, and Capello's decision to appoint Rio Ferdinand as England captain?

Personally I think Capello has done the right thing in axing Terry as captain, though I have my doubts about his choice of replacement skipper. Ferdinand has made mistakes in crucial games over the past couple of seasons, and has not been without injury problems. I'm no longer convinced he should even be an England regular, and wonder if we'd be better off with either  West Ham's Upson or Tottenham's Dawson alongside Terry in the defence.

As far as captaincy is concerned, wouldn't Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard or Ashley Cole have made a better choice than Ferdinand?

Puts life in perspective dosen't it. It's alright to be a government minister, supposedly running the country, and carrying on with someone else, but  heaven forbid that the England Football Captain trangresses.

Agree, Ferdinand may not even be a sure start, it would have been Gerrard or Rooney for me.

Beat me to it, a ban for doping is surely worse than having a bit of an eye for the ladies? We are struggling now however if you rule Terry out.

So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.

I can't say I ever get that worked up about England (its not like its important like United) but, as my mate pointed out yesterday, Terry didn't just have an eye for a random lady, he copped off with the partner of one his colleagues! He can't be left in a position of authority after that.

Beckham got away with it because it was the babysitter but not the wife of someone he worked with....
