Prof Sir Jonathan Van-Tam
« on: January 13, 2022, 10:39:52 AM »
Prof Sir Jonathan Van-Tam is leaving his role as England's deputy chief medical officer.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid said it had been "an honour" to work with him, saying he was a "national treasure".
Prof Van-Tam said it had been the "greatest privilege" of his career to have served the UK during the coronavirus pandemic.
He will continue to work for the government until the end of March before taking up a new academic role.
The professor said his time in the role had been "the most challenging of my professional career, especially the Covid response," adding: "We all wish Covid had never happened."
He thanked all those he had worked with during the pandemic, including the "countless numbers who work behind the scenes - all of whom have an unrelenting commitment to help and support the British public".
"It has been an honour to work with them all," he said.
He especially praised chief medical officer Prof Sir Chris Whitty, who in turn applauded Prof Van-Tam's "steadfast support, advice, leadership and commitment". The pair were knighted in the most recent New Year Honours list.
United we stand..................

I am sure evryone on here would like to wish Jonathan all the very best in his new role at Nottingham University and thank him for his excellent work during the pandemic. We also thank him for putting BUFC on the map at every opportunity and along with his lovely family supporting his "beloved" Pilgrims.  UTP

The latest BBC website article includes this comment..." But it may give Professor Van Tam more time to get to the Jakeman Community stadium and reignite his 50-year love affair with local team Boston United." - a nice mention, but "reignite"...really?!?

It's not really a new role: JVT has been a lecturer at Nottingham Uni for many years. He's just been on an extended secondment and is simply returning back to uni life. Fair play to him.

It seems he's going to be a pro-vice chancellor.

How about as our new manager? Good knowledge of football at this level, respected by everyone, excellent inter-personal skills, works exceptionally well under pressure, has proved he can get the best out of his team

JVT has done a football podcast with The Athletic website, where he talks about BUFC. It's free to listen to and is available here

Had a listen to that last week - it's very good and JVT clearly knows his stuff. Shame they parroted the "vaxxed in the morning" story though as it's not actually true (although let's be honest, we all wish it were!!).
