Darlington away
« on: November 11, 2020, 09:11:29 AM »
Firstly got to say hope Nicky Hunt is ok. Suffered a bad injury with a few mins of the match to go. He collided with another Darlington player and stayed down, apparently a spinal issue / neck / back issue, horrible injury.

We played well and 0-2 a fair reflection of the game.  Go with Platt as my man of the match, did his usual role of preventing opposition playing in Midfield. Fitzsimmons with a couple of good saves, Burrow and Tootle also stood out with good performances.

Thought Darlington's streaming service was really good, they certainly set the standard for the rest of the league. Didn't cut out once, multi camera setup, highlights at half time. They had a 'virtual match sponsor' which got a bit of advertising before game and mention at half time. Might be something we could do to get a little extra revenue in. They reported 1207 watched the stream including 276 from Boston (they ask whether support Darlington or opposition when paying) which is a very good number, not too far off what they would expect to have got last season at a home game, normally get around 1500. Most clubs only report getting a fraction of their normal attendance for streaming, maybe their high quality production setup has encouraged fans to watch. The 276 away fans about what I expected we would get, less than 100 would have gone in normal times on a Tuesday night? An argument to keep doing it post covid as there may be a financial net benefit for clubs and benefit most away team fans who wouldn't travel for Tuesday night games.

So, will the league insist on another 300 (?) mile midweek round trip to replay the game for the sake of five minutes, with Boston 2-0 ahead and the abandonment in no way their fault? Or in these cash-strapped times will  common sense prevail?

Agree re the performance- was excellent I thought. The first goal was awesome. Battled hard, pressing all the time- giving them no time on the ball. Fitzsimmons also made a couple quality saves.
Streaming service was top class.
Best wishes to Nicky Hunt

Could not watch it, kept declining my card.  I see on Facebook others had the same problem.

we’ve now had several enquiries from press and fans about whether the result will stand -- with the score 2-0 to Boston after 86 minutes of play -- or be replayed.

This decision will be taken by the league in due course.

League rule 8.33 says: “In the event that a match is abandoned for reasons over which neither Club has control, the Club playing at home shall retain the gate receipts for such uncompleted match, and the Board shall determine the terms upon which any replayed match should be played.”

Darlington's former Bolton Wanderers defender Nicky Hunt has been released from hospital after being injured in his side's game with Boston United.

The National League North match was abandoned on Tuesday night after the 37-year-old was knocked unconscious.

He was treated on the pitch for more than an hour for a head injury suffered in the 87th minute before being taken to hospital by ambulance at 23:00 GMT.

Hunt was released from hospital at about 05:00 GMT on Wednesday.

"We are pleased to inform everyone that following a scan on his head and neck at North Tees Hospital early this morning, Nicky has been given the all clear," a Darlington statement read.

"Once again, we would like to thank the physios from both Darlington and Boston who gave Nicky so much care and attention on the field, their professionalism prevented the situation from getting even worse, and also to the medical staff for their attention.

"We would also like to thank everyone from across the football spectrum for sending their best wishes to Nicky."

Hunt played 127 times for Bolton in the Premier League and also had spells with Birmingham, Derby and Bristol City.

So pleased that Nicky Hunt is ok. I wish him a speedy recovery and well done to all those involved with treating him.

Good performance by the boys and an absolute top class streaming service.

Regarding the accident to Nicky Hunt, the YouTube video shows him moving backwards to head a high ball and not seeing our new signing Joe Leesley lying on the ground after colliding with another Darlington player.  Hunt fell backwards over Leesley and slammed into his own player, injuring them both.

Very interesting interview with the Darlo physio, Danny O"Connor ,about the injury to Nicky Hunt and how serious it appeared at first, and the long wait for the ambulance. Full of praise for the help given by Hayden and the other two Boston physio"s. Danny"s interview is on the Darlo FC website and lasts nearly 30mins.
