Player of the Decade
« on: January 01, 2010, 03:51:37 PM »
After reading the updated ImpsTalk site and the review of the noughties; I have to agree; Gypo was the best player we had at York Street; although Pete Costello remains my favorite player of all time.

Opinions???

Im sorry but how can you choose David Noble over Paul Ellender, i know Noble was a better player but Ellender did much more for us than Noble ever did

I guess it depends what you mean by Player , is it a loyal sold no nonsense basic lower league player or gifted, skillful and talented player wasting his time that disappeared to nothing.  I  know which Ellender was and I know which Noble was.

This sounds like a thread we had before where some confused best players with favourite players,or what should constitute a "legend".Best player of the decade for me suggests a player who has made a significant contribution,or has had some longevity at the club.Since most of the last decade was played under Evans, longevity was difficult considering his revolving door policy with players.I liked Noble as a player, probably the most gifted I have seen playing for Boston, but for me there are only two real contenders, the Pauls-Ellender and Bastock.

It is easy to see why many are picking Elly but with all due respect to him he could never be compared to Neil Redfern just look at the record books. The only player i can recall seeing playing for the pilgrims with a better pedigree was Kevin Hector (ex Derby and England )

Pedigree is not everything. Gazza probably had the best pedigree of the lot but I wouldn't put him in  my top ten let alone the best of the decade.

It should probably be one of the "Player of the Year" winners:

99/00     Peter Costello
00/1    Joby Gowshall
01/2    Daryl Clare
02/3    Paul Bastock
03/4    Paul Ellender
04/5    Austin McCann
05/6    Alan White
06/7    Mark Greaves
07/8    Jon Rowan
08/9    Adam Millson
