I understand the capacities today are:
Main Stand 1,323
York Street    877
Spain Road 2,000
Town End   1,500
-----------------------
Total.          5,700

Yet when the ground was rebuilt to almost the same spec it is now, capacity was 12000 or something
I've. No doubt the town end could get 3 or 4000 in and similar with spayne lane, with 2-3k in York St end
.

Assume it must be a Health & Safety issue.  No doubt many more could be fitted in but 'the old days' are just that I'm afraid.

United we stand..................

Loads of restrictions were put on grounds after Hillsborough.

The cordoned off sections of the Town End must have taken 3-400 hundred off the capacity as well.

Why are they cordoned off?

Why are they cordoned off?

I guess its because  the spectators hide the averts on the back walls .

It's alright shoving 3000 in the Town End, until we score and everyone gets crushed...
I create YouTube videos (BUFC/FM/CM 01-02), and stream Football Manager on Twitch as BostonUnitedFM.

I think "capacity" back then was quite simply determined by how many people would physically fit in the ground. If it was that simple, yes, York Street probably would hold 10,000 even today (green seats reduce standing numbers). But these days capacity is quite rightly determined by how many people the ground can SAFELY hold, given the facilities available and turnstiles/exits.

Why are they cordoned off?

I think the concrete is in a pretty poor condition and the club didn't want to spend the money rectifying it - which is fair enough for a stadium that's about to be demolished.

Makes sense.  Take as an economic thing.  About 400 less fans, so lost revenue of just over £4000 ( if a sell out ). I would think the cost of replacing concrete would outweigh the ticket revenue.

Yeah, the Town End "wings" have been exposed to the elements since the stand was built so it's no great surprise the terracing has deteriorated. Just not worth fixing.
