Old songs and chants
« on: November 05, 2019, 01:18:56 PM »
With the Fa cup just around the corner, I got to remembering the great cup runs and games we had in the 60's and 70's.

I also got to thinking of the songs and chants we used to sing.

With the problems of fighting and tribal confrontation of that era, a lot of the songs/chants were aimed at insulting the opposing fans.

One I seem to remember started like this " Like a knock kneed chicken and a cross eyed hen.  We hav'nt lost a fight since I don't know when"  I cannot for the life of me remember the rest.  Does anyone remember this chant?

Can anyone remember other songs or chants?  In this PC world we now live in, please be careful in what you post.

I can remember something sang to the tune of Distant drums, but again I cannot remember the words we sang to it.

We had joy we had fun
We had Kettering on the run
But the joy didn't last
Cos the b'stards ran too fast
He who would valiant be , 'gainst all disaster.
Let him in constancy follow the master.
There's no discouragement shall make him once relent
His first avowed intent, to be a Pilgrim.

John Bunyan, 1684

Who are yer, who are yer. Sang to opposing fans when they sang insults to us. You what, you what, you what. Same scenario.

I smell the smell of distant b@ms
Over there, over there.

Sang whilst pointing at the opposing fans.

The one to the tune of Distant Drums went

"I hear the sound of distant bums, over there, over there, and do they smell? - Like f***ing hell!!

Aren't they mostly versions of Bread of Heaven and Sloop John B but with different words?
