York Street Memories - Games
« on: August 12, 2019, 09:27:29 PM »
For this season's match programmes I'm doing an article in each one on the history of York Street / Shodfriars Lane. I'll obviously be covering some of the great games that Boston United have played there since the first one in 1933. I've had a first stab at producing a list of contenders to write up. I'll need to narrow it down to about a dozen. So I ought I'd put my list past you all. I'm hoping you'll have a few stories to tell about some of the more recent ones. Also let me know if you've got any favourite York Street games not on the list.

Not that I get to too many but I enjoyed the 2-1 win over Lincoln in the League with Dudfield scoring the 94 min winner after we'd had a backs to the wall half. Also the 3-2 win over Alfreton with the Pearson bullet header to win it.

I've got the programmes for the vast majority of those games (possibly missing 3) so if you need the programme let me know and I'll bring them to a game, I know you'll look after them.

The 5---4 win against Blyth in 1985.  Terrific fight back in monsoon conditions. I was still BUZZING two days later.

Same here, the 4-0 win over Frome Town in the next round was a complete anti climax after that!!!!

I still think the 3-0 bossing we gave Bloody Runcorn in the last 8 was right up there with the best I've seen in 43 years though, if you remember that was played in a monsoon too.

As an aside, I read Henry's book the other night and he completely omitted the Frome game from his memories of that Trophy run.

Luton is my favourite
But 2 notable mentions
The 2 all v Donny in 01/2 when we trailed two nil going into added time in s top of the league clash
Then the 5-2 v Harrogate to kickstart our run to the playoffs in 2015 when we trailed 2 nil in 5 mins but led 20 mins later!

What about Boston United 9 Buxton 3 - a midweek match in the mid 1990s? We had eight different goalscorers that night - maybe a club record???
