Were they both hard nuts Ted.
But many were in those days,I grew up in a little farming village in the fens, a place called Gedney Drove End.
I remember the football teams they had down there, real hard men.
I cut my footballing teeth down there as many young lads did, when you went down they chucked a wet sponge on your affected part, and said "get up boy and run it off, yo be right".
They had 3 teams down there, and they had a moto above the changing room door that read, " If it moves above the grass kick it, and if it doesn't kick it until it does"
Sadly they don't have a team that plays there anymore or any facilities.
Loved every minute playing there, even the painful one's.
