Billy Howells and Alan White are two names that immediately come to mind, even though from very different eras.

Slight twist on the subject, but hardest, toughest, s.o.b., Martin Filson has to take it.
He who would valiant be , 'gainst all disaster.
Let him in constancy follow the master.
There's no discouragement shall make him once relent
His first avowed intent, to be a Pilgrim.

as a schoolboy I vividly  remember watching DON DONOVAN play for BUFC. He was a tough tackling defender, very commanding in the air..a real physical presence. He would be my choice.Donovan played many times for Everton and  Republic of Ireland...

THE best defender of all time has to be Paul Ellender. Leader, captain of our Conference winning side, was with BUFC throughout our time in the Football League and even played for us during our first two seasons in Regional Non-League football. Legend! Shirtliff, Pearson and Casey are 3 other great defenders to join him.
Alan Partridge: "I bet I've got more friends than you've got cows. How many cows have you got?"
Farmer: "I've got 100 cows."
AP: "Well, I've got 104 friends!"

Dick kicks for touch were what years later we wished Billy Howells had emulated at St Albans .  Emphatic , and a danger to windows in adjacent areas .

OK ..I frequented the Spayne half way in those days .

Remember criticising Mr Hardy for the muffed clearance on the infant Patter .
And got slagged off ..probably by you 2  :blank:
