Curzon Ashton (H) 15/8/15
« on: August 13, 2015, 01:08:12 PM »
Curzon have had 2 straight promotions and are yet to get beat in their 2 games so far- a home draw with Corby followed by a good point at Telford. Should we expect to get off the mark with a win- personally I'd see anything other than 3 points as a disappointment and early on, we'd be giving ourselves some catching up to do if we were to be 8 or 9pts off already.

Hopefully Alexander will be given another crack in goal and our defence will not leak the chances they did on Tuesday night. I don't buy Dennis' thinking that we were unlucky v Solihull. Yes decisions went against us and there were errors but they exposed us time and again and we rarely looked like scoring. I'm keen to see what the new left back will do given that he's now had a chance to settle in, as he was thrown in at the deep end on Tuesday.

The season starts Saturday.... right?

Personally Josh,  i think we were unlucky in many aspects !  Den is spot on with this.  We created enough chances to put a few goals away and what with the refs major failure on the red card that never came it was a game changer.  Solihull on my part look a good team and far better than Stockport.   Curzon are only picking up draws,  and from reports from fans of these teams they have played they are not that great.  I predict a win this weekend !

Alexander has to be in goal, he was awesome in midweek and the new left back deserves to be cheered under his correct name and not mocked as Rene !  I found that i bit disrespectful to be fair hearing it shouted from the town end.  Players want to be cheered on their own merits,  and apart from a few stray passes ( which on any debut will happen with new players looking to impress too much ) i thought he looked good both defending and coming forward.  Plenty of pluses in my opinion !!

We may have created enough, but we gave away far too much in defence and deservedly shipped 4 goals.

With Mills fitness a continuing prob, we need two defenders and a
b/s midfielder as well as Garner in midfield. then we can start the season
properly and see what happens. Both sides this season  that have beaten us
have had physicality all over the park. We need to muscle up and quick
or as usual we will be playing catch up again

Now theres a point .I still think a manager should get his important new signings in by May/June , which for 2 seasons this one has failed to do .
So a win on Sat  ,?, who's the opposition in the next few games  ?

Greene had signed up 8 players by  January for this season .   Two giants in mid-field !!!!!!! as Big M says on another  thread do that and moans of lack of creativity will emerge .     When the the Garner, Dixon and Roberts partnership let us down last season?

GHM ..Greenes 2015/16 signings are NOT major in my book .
eg Remember Evans signing David Rennie  in May ..
But like you and maybe some other 'vets' I have  serious health issues which  preclude me from making the near 100 mile journey to York St ..
So I will defer to your better offices

Who would be a manager ,  8 players contracted that ended the second half of the  season the form team in the league , I,m sure most teams in our league would considered  at  least Southwell , Pidge
(both in NC team of the year) Mills and Felix major signings at this level .

Many have high hopes that Rollins & Alexander will achieve the same status this season .

Makelele, Alan Ball, Keane, Stiles, Couquelin, Bremner, Gentile, Giles, Hunter, and the infamous Wille Woodburn, are just some that come to mind that are hardly, by size, giant midfield players, suggesting its not bigger players we need, but perhaps simply for more aggression and determination to be shown by those we have?
Anyone can kick an opponent, enter Mr Vinne Jones to see that, but I am a great believer that physicality is a mind set thing, a ot of the best players in the world, in the premiership and yes even in NL football are not strapping six footers

Going back to the beginning of this thread I made the point that a certain midfielder didn't put in the effort required and should be replaced from the start by McGhee who is the same size but gives 100%. I also said and still think Garner should step forward in midfield to protect the back four when we have a center back to take his place hopefully Zak when fit. We do have midfielders with talent bur at this level it also needs 100% effort and commitment.      UTP.

David Silva, Iniesta to name but two that are not big in stature.

Was (Norman)Hunter small ?
He was a bite your legs off wide defender (putting it mildly !) .
