United in the Community and Boston United Bikeathon
« on: March 15, 2015, 08:15:58 PM »
United in the Community and Boston United are going head to head in an 18-hour static Bikeathon race covering the distance of Lands’ End to John O’Groats from Friday 20th to Saturday 21st March to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support Charity.

Two teams, led by UITC football development manager/BUFC First Team assistant manager Martyn Bunce and Centre of Excellence administrator Lewis Thorogood, will be responsible for ensuring their bikes are continuously running over the full 18 hours in a head to head race to the finish line. Other staff members taking part include Sports Therapist Katie Cooper, Head of Youth Development Steve Welsh and Assistant Stadium Safety officer Matt Elworthy.

Students from the Centre of Excellence and Community Football Club will also be taking part with their own bikeathon challenge to help raise funds for their youth programmes on the same day.

“MacMillan Cancer Support do a fantastic job of supporting cancer patients, which is something that currently has personal relevance to me, and I want to thank Martyn and all the staff at the club for taking part and supporting this charity. We would like to ask people to donate generously on our Just Giving page or in person at the Pilgrim Lounge. The Bikeathon challenge is going to be a fantastic event, and will also bring together the Centre of Excellence and Community Football Club to raise additional funds for their self funded youth football programmes,” says Lewis Thorogood.

The United in the Community/Boston United Bikeathon challenge will start in the Pilgrim Lounge at 6pm on Friday 20th March and finish at 12pm on Saturday 21st March, to coincide with the Vanarama Conference North clash against local rivals Gainsborough Trinity. You can make a donation on their Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/Boston-United-Bikeathon-Staff-Challenge/ or in person at The Pilgrim Lounge.

Why not have a bucket collection around the ground too?
