« on: October 29, 2014, 06:08:18 AM »
Boston United v AFC Bournemouth, 10 August 2002

Score 2-2 Competition - League Division 3

Attendance 4,184

This week we lose to Solihull and Bournemouth beat WBA and are 4th in the championship. 101 league places between us, Oh well, I enjoyed that season, will we ever return to that level !
against league 3, an idiots guide to making the rich richer and the poor poorer.

Unfortunately - no
never say never!
or "unfortunately no"
new ground impetus might kick in, disillusioned Spalding fans wanting to watch a "big" club
you never know :)

Football does change very quickly, so never say never. It's only four years since Stockport were playing Southampton in league fixtures. Look where both of those have ended up!

And how long ago were we playing Hull C in a league fixture ?

Great comeback game ..
Marred by  Poppies fans hissing 'cheats' at any Boston fan around ..b4 the game .
Rather ruined the League experience for me  .
Did any one else come across this during the League years ?

I think it's fairly pointless trying to speculate how long it'll take to get back into the Football League at this point. Put it this way: not any time soon. That much we do know.

First things first. Let's get the new ground built, and let's get the finances fixed so we're self-sufficient and don't have to rely on external funding to prop us up. This can be withdrawn at any time; we'd be wise to remember that after the Lavaflow debacle.

This will mean waiting until the post-Chestnut era so the long-term ownership model can be established. Who knows what shape that will take? Supposing the absence of a sugar-daddy, which rarely end well (we've lucked out with Newton and Kempster, who are somewhat more altruistic than your average), it may be a board of local business-people with the necessary acumen, with significant input from a trust. We'll hardly be flush with cash, so it could take many years of patient building to get there.

Despite the current doom and gloom, and consequent shite attendances, I still think Burton Albion are an example of what CAN be achieved of a club our size, so never say never, eh?

Great post....copy and paste to other threads.
Hopefully the "we need this and that and should be doing this" brigade might take note

Spot on Pete... Burton is pretty much us but with the ground, with the finances in order and the team to boot.
You even look at Dagenham getting to League 1 and some of the other sides in there and think if we did everything right, we could get to that level

Agree on the Burton ..but they are positioned somewhat better geographically for players and fans ..
MInutes from Derby and 35 to Brum on train .
Have had a good manager in Rowett . think he will do ok at Brum .

It was Nigel Clough who got them into FL , took him about 10 years to do it .
Is it fair to say Burton fans are a more tolerant than Bostons ? .

Ah that 'debut' league match vs Bournemouth...the sad tacky fireworks (embarrassing) starting on -4 points too..the Bournemouth fans singing 'We've got more points than you'..actually that made me laugh :)

I agree Ted, I much prefer Simon Clough - top paper shop in West Bridgford.
By the way, Gee reckons once Steve has managed in La Liga and made some millions he wants to return to Boston due to the guilt he continues to feel and this time use his own money to get us in the League. Happy Days.
