Dowie and Meadows released
« on: October 14, 2014, 04:06:10 PM »
Both released. Would expect to see at least one replacement in the pipeline. No one can argue that the midfield hasn't been right this season so glad something has been done about it. Presumably these two have been released as they would be on more money than the likes of Hollingsworth and Doran who are young and local.

Beat me to the story Carl !  I am a surprised with Meadows who i rated as a workhorse in the middle. But i also agree changes are needed in the centre, we have at the moment not great cover for the back line who are in my eyes still the best CB's in this league ( its what's in front of them ) and we need support and link play going forward. So the middle for me is obviously the key issues for change.  Its going to be interesting these next 48hrs or so to see who we get in.

Is releasing players based on finances and not on ability a risky thing to do though?

I would think so BG ,  although I don,t think it is the case this time , I reckon he could have permed any 2 from 5 in this case .

Hopefully more to move out as well. Why has it taken him so long to realise what lots of us have been saying for most of the season.

Dont hold your breath for immediate replacements either!!

have you scouted these lads MIELE?
which one is better?
what do think their wages might be?
are they local lads?
what are their strengths?
are they a "pair"? (not in a gay way)
would they mix well with existing players?
can they get to training twice a week?
can they make the step up to a higher league? (one or two have failed recently)

I think you have missed two questions. 1 Would they want to come here. 2. At the moment would they consider such a move as going up or down the ladder.

Michael suffered with injuries in his last season with us, prior to that he was a superb captain for us and a nice guy to boot.
He will always be respected at trinity.

Was never that impressed with Dowie when we first got him from Histon - distinctly average I thought. When he got injured at the start of the season, a big thing was made by the management team that things would get better when he regained fitness - and then he's gone a few weeks later. Good decision but can't understand why we got him in the first place and why he was 'bigged up'. Same as Gledhill - all this chasing and faffing around international clearance - and then realise he's rubbish after a few games - and probably demotivating Vince at the same time.

Also not sorry to see Meadows move onto pastures new. Not even mediocre. A sort of ineffective Anthony Church type. Didn't really offer any bite in the midfield and certainly no goals.

Think he played for long periods in any position too, difficult to criticise when he was simply doing the best he could in a poor team.  Not sure he is the answer for us, but don't think he is miles away from Conf North Level.  Is certainly earning Conf North money.
