« on: September 16, 2014, 01:15:01 PM »
Marc Newsham will be back in action on Tuesday evening as Boston United’s under-21s entertain Mansfield Town at The Jakemans Stadium.
Newsham, who has netted 107 goals in 219 appearances for the Pilgrims, will play 45 minutes against the Stags on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.30pm).
The likes of Sam Vince, Conor Marshall, Michael Hollingsworth, Jack Barlow, Niall Doran and David Fallah are all set to feature for United too.
The Wilson and Co Vauxhall Stand will be open for spectators, with admission priced £2 for adults and £1 for concessions.
The Pilgrim Lounge will be open throughout the evening too.

I see we won 2-1 last night, with goals from 22-year-old Jay Dowie and 22-year-old David Fallah. There was also a 45-minute run-out for 27-year-old Marc Newsham. It's good that we can arrange this type of game to give players a run-out when they're on the fringes of the team or recovering from injury, but I still fail to see how we can call it our under-21 side?

Suppose you could call it a different name.
Could get together with a few local teams, Gainsborough, Grantham, Worksop, Lincoln, Scunthorpe, Peterborough, Grimsby, Doncaster etc etc, perhaps get all players not in first team, along with a few youngsters and play matches  against each other between September and April
Maybe you could call it a Reserves League?

On second thoughts, it won't catch on

It's effectively a friendly so what does it matter for a development game?
So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.

Even the U21 Premier League allows over-age players, as did the U23 Olympics.
I create YouTube videos (BUFC/FM/CM 01-02), and stream Football Manager on Twitch as BostonUnitedFM.

That as it may, the only thing of any importance about the match is not how he played but how Newshes knee  felt or reacted after the game. Does anyone know ?

Newsham did ok, didn't stretch himself and didn't appear to be struggling with the knee at any point and played the planned 45 mins, hopefully he will continue his progress with an hour v Donny.  Vince pulled of two or three fine saves. Hollingsworth had a a decent game. Doran played as he does for the first team, nice touches but slows the game down too much and doesn't release the ball early enough. Ditto Fallah who scored with but it was a bad mistake from a tame shot from the 'keeper and failed to seriously challenge the 'keeper with numerous chances. Barlow had his best game so far for Boston in my opinion and looked like he has come on alot from preseason. No5 trialist was very good Ulloah I think? Strong, tidy on the ball and commanding. Nyomi isn't as good as we already have. Roughly 150-180 attendance wise.

Was that Cecil Nyoni - the same player we had on loan from Sheffield Wednesday a few year ago? If it is the same player then I don't remember him as anything special, and he would have had to have improved to be anywhere near good enough for us now. His Wiki page says he has been to Ireland more recently, but couldn't get international clearance to play for Limerick.

He's the one who decided he was too good for us and said he did not want to play for us anymore, and returned to Shefield, ended up at Matlock and the mighty Frickley, waste of space in a tight budget.

Yes it was the same player, didn't look as assured as his partner who I hope gets another game against Donny. Not sure if Reed was playing in order to get match fitness or after a deal for the first team.
