I have been a critic of  Newsham in the past however this season he has been a revelation. He was my man of the match at Stockport tackling at his own corner flag and as the ball was moved up field received a great through ball at the other end to score a lovely goal. As on Tuesday and again today put in a great shift, oh he also scored.

He reminds me of Ian Wright in that he's not the most industrious of players but when a chance comes along he's normally there to test the keeper.........clubs know he's a nuisance and as such I see him as almost and extra player in that you often see 2 defenders try to combat him.

I did mention to Cookie today his goal record could be under threat if he stays with us.........its a big ask I know but I don't think CC was ever a 20+ goal a season man......Newsh is frequently.

That's kept you all entertained, still think he's slow and lazy with a reverse gear to avoid a challenge

I remember Stuart Douglas from the league days.  Committed, energetic, chased down the ball.

Couldn't score for toffee.

I'd rather have Newsh's 20 goals a season ta.

I think these are the all-time goalscoring statistics - updated with today's goal.

Name           Years    P   G  G/P Most Top
Chris Cook     1978-98 484 181 0.37 28   3
Jim Kabia      1974-88 345 138 0.40 35   5
Wilf Notley    1936-39 157 135 0.86 53   3
Jack Stone     1945-51 186 130 0.70 29   4
John Froggatt  1969-80 318 125 0.39 31   3
Frank Bungay   1934-36  82  95 1.16 61   2
Colin Smith    1961-64  98  94 0.96 58   2
Peter Thompson 1966-69 134  91 0.68 42   1
Jimmy Rayner   1965-68 101  91 0.90 49   1
Harry Sharp    1945-50 156  88 0.56 34   2
Ray Wilkins    1954-57 142  87 0.61 41   3
Marc Newsham   2009-13 168  87 0.52 30   3
Gary Jones     1991-93  97  57 0.59 31   2

So the Newsh needs one more goal to move up to 10th place level with Harry Sharp - who had a similar goals per game ratio. Only the great Frank Bungay has managed more than a goal a game for Boston United.  8)

Amazing how many strikers we have in there who were well above 1 in 2. Newsh is too but only just- but that's still a great effort, but imagine how many one or two on that list would've got had they played Cookie's number of games (or Bazza's!)

As for Newsh- a mixed bag. Mr Sitter, stood on the ball, hit the post, could've had 3 or 4 had the bounce fell for him yet his goal was really well taken. Didn't let earlier missed get him down. I just hope we can keep him but he's stuck with us when we were $hit so no reason why he won't while we're doing well.

I don't think he'll leave. The impression you get is he's sussed out how good he is and what standard he can play at and is doing that using the money to help get on with the rest of his life (fatherhood, studying etc). If someone was going to come in for him full-time, they would have done so by now and I reckon he's happy here and sees no reason to go to another part-time club. Though as KoN says, anyone in this league would have him tomorrow.

As for people who criticise him, I'm always surprised that folk can watch a lot of football and understand so little about it. I don't have problems with his work rate, but even if I did there's no point running himself into the ground if he's too tired to take the chances when they come...
