A community coaching scheme run by Boston United Football Club has received more than £182,000 of funding.

The club's award-winning Active Pilgrims programme was handed the cash by Sport England as part of a £650,000 East Midlands giveaway.

The three-year project will see a range of activities expanded across the borough of Boston for people aged 14 and over.

Thirty six newly-qualified coaches will also be taken on.

Nick Reeson, community manager at the club, said: “This funding provides a massive boost to our Active Pilgrims programme, which has proved so beneficial to date.

"This money will allow the local community to try a whole range of sports across the borough of Boston during the next three years."

Mr Reeson added the money would allow more disabled people to take part in sport sessions through its United in the Community department.

Four community sports projects in the region are getting a share the of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Community Sport Activation Fund.

It is the first of five rounds of the Community Sport Activation Fund, which will invest a total of £40 million.

Bids are now being accepted to the second round of funding, which closes on July 1.

Community groups, charities and councils are among those that can bid for funding for up to three years, with grants of between £50,000 and £250,000 available.

Great news. Big boost for the club and shows we are going in the right direction hopefully this will help us towards gaining funding for our planned new stadium?
