A golden opportunity thrown away....
« on: October 20, 2012, 06:17:23 PM »
A cracking game today and I thought we played really well....considering the circumstances....But having said that this was a golden opportunity which,in my opinion,we threw away.....Perhaps BF could have been dealt a yellow for his wreckless lunge at the ball, because it was perhaps a 50-50 encounter.....but really he couldnt complain at being dealt a red....as for SWD he should realise that you cant do that to an opponent and complain about receiving a red card....it was two moments of pure irresponsible madness which cost us a game which we were well capable of winning,it also cost us a chance of receiving much needed revenue and a place in the next round....Both players should have a long hard look at their actions today...

Well said.

I'd fine Fairclough the maximum allowed because he was reckless. You just don't do those sort of challenges after 10 minutes in an area of the park where the danger is at a minimum.

SWD was provoked but he's been about long enough to know the score if you retaliate.

Their idiocy has cost the club big style, the 3 game ban both receive will also hurt us as we are threadbare judging by the subs employed.

Agree with the above. We did play well, but those two cost us - I reckon we would have been through to the next round if we had 11 men on the pitch.

It's about time Fairclough retired from football unless he learns to tackle! Every home game I've seen him he's always put a reckless and dangerous tackle.By reading Boston Live it seems he does it away aswell. His lack of disciple has contributed to Mr Newton losing out on £12500!

How long ago should Paul Scholes have retired?

We were all over them when we had 11 men, scoring a cracking goal. Once down to 10, I still think we had the edge. Only once SWD went off did Alty utilise the extra space and eventually put the game to bed.

Sanders was unlucky with his curler at 1-2, though...

Scott, they murdered us when we went down to 10 men, it was almost on a par with the England v San Marino game!

How you can say that I do not know mate! You were sat 10 yards from me and saw the same game, we were pulled all over the place.

We still created chances, and they weren't hurting us. They had plenty of the ball, but mostly this was with their back 4 and holding midfielder...

I thought our bench once again showed up our lack of strength in depth.

Take away the starting XI and we are pitifully threadbare.

Not a pop at JL, more the terrible state the finances are still in, a couple more lads with the experience of Jones would make all the difference, you cannot go throwing boys into a men's league and expect them to do a job on a regular basis.

Got to agree with Scotty, they had plenty of possession but didn't create too many clear cut chances. Danny Haystead made a couple of good saves and they got their goal but they never looked like running in a hatful.

Yes they made us work hard and had plenty of posession as there is space to exploit, Altrincham are a decent side and it's what I expected once Fairclough was sent off. If the shoe had been on the other foot we'd have done the same to them much like we did against Colwyn Bay. I certainly don't agree it was like England San Marino, and if we'd have kept 11 on the pitch I'm pretty sure we'd have won that game as for the first 15 minutes we battered them with their keeper making 2 outstanding saves, but we'll never know now. Fair enough watch the game without bias but sometimes it can go too far the other way. I thought the 10 played really as well as could be expected from 10 and we still caused them problems. If we'd have stayed at 10 it would have been touch and go if we'd got a replay imo but again we'll never know.

When we went down to 9 it was obvious that we'd lose the game, again I thought the 9 did us proud.

As for squad strength? After the 11 on the pitch we have Silk, Wilson who's a big signing who we've missed badly, Stokes and Smith who are all capable of doing a decent job in the first team. Yeah the rest are inexperienced but I had a look at Halifax's forum after we beat them and they could only put out a bench of 3 defenders, a gk and a striker. They only had 2 players out so it's not just us who suffer, Halifax have 1 of, if not the biggest budget in this league and have similar problems to us in that regard.

On the changes front i think it was a huge mistake to jones of. I really cant get my head round that one. Jones killed the ball dead everytime and gave a small gap in pressure. he also allowed some of our players to move up the feild

Why  Lee  took Jones of was because the lad had run himself into the ground, he must have covered every area of the pitch except the piece between the goal posts, He did not look all that tired,  {not like I Ross who should have been subbed on the hour mark}   In my eyes Jones  was without any doubt m-o-t-m, the lad really excelled in everything he did, if only we had got two or three more with the same enthusiasm and work-rate, Lee was thinking ahead to the two three match suspensions that await his two red card forwards, If we were to lose Jones to a injury in that last period of the match, he would really be cream crackered.

The poor lad was spent, he was a passenger in the game once they had made him run back and forth and back and forth.  To blame Lee for poor substitutions is just plain daft.  We were down to 9 men, the lads left on did a huge job to stop it being a hatful, there was little changes from the sidelines could do to stop that outcome once SWD had gone.
So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.
