no segregation....and no police
« on: November 19, 2011, 07:08:35 PM »
for goodness sake the disgraceful crowd scenes at the Northolme today could and should have been avoided....the stewards seemed spooked by the whole affair and didnt know what to do.....whether BUFC or GTFC "fans" started it is irrelevent.....it happened because GT skimped and didnt pay for any "proper police" in their biggest game of the season-disgraceful....if we have to have segregation at York Street to accommodate their 26 it should have been common sense in a game of this magnitude....poor show Trinity

agree that the stewards just shit it, some trotted over and hoped it would be finished before they got there.
it happened because of idiots and when it was going on other fans from other parts of the ground came racing over to join in. police were not particularly needed, just segregation.
was anyone badly hurt, as an ambulance came by just after?

I happened to be stood right where the fighting or should I say the assaults by a gang of Gainsborough 40 year old tossers took place. I don't blame the stewards as they were clearly just a few blokes that get to see the game for free and 20 quid in their pocket for wearing a day- glow jacket, they were clueless and scared. This after great banter in the club before the game where an elderly supporter said that the last time they saw a policeman in the ground he was looking for his bicycle clips.
The powers that be at Gainsborough are obviously unprofessional and should be brought to task, had it happened at Boston we would probably have been demoted a couple of divisions.
Anyway, what a great performance by the boys and how young Ben Milnes is developing his midfield role although everyone put in a great shift, great stuff lads. Oh how desperate Clarke looked, after giving us fans the come on after scoring his goal he looked as though he was shrinking as we went on to play them off the park

I was stood directly behind Oxo and had a birds eye view of the disgraceful events this afternoon.

At the start of the second half about a dozen Gainsborough lads walked across the stand in front of the Boston fans singing a song questioning our sexual habits (which I'll admit I thought was both witty and clever, probably says something about me and my sense of humour rather than them) and positioned themselves at the rear of the stand behind and to the right of the Boston fans. In my opinion this is when the stewards shoud have realised the potential for trouble and created a presence.

About 25 minutes into the second half a thug in a white jumper moved to the front and began confronting the main body of Boston supporters using familiar come and have a go hand gestures, to which they retaliated using chants only. At this point the remainder of the Gainsborough thugs ran to the front and the leader of the band threw his chips into the face of a Boston fan who understandably retaliated with his fists.

A melee resulted as described by Oxo, with which I wholeheartedly agree other than to say the Gainsborough mob got a bloody good hiding which I don't think they were expecting.

To me, this action sums up the club. nouveau riche and totally classless. No  thought given as to how to cope with a larger crowd, although it can hardly have been unexpected, try and buy success on the pitch and the hell with the detail. I also agree with Oxo that if it had happened at York Street we'd be lucky to have Sunday pub league next season.

Other than that well done to all the lads this afternoon, brilliant result.

It's a disgrace, having waited what 1/2 an hour for chips, the ungreatful sods could have eaten them or not bothered to queue.  I was starving by full time.
So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.

.............it wouldnt be unusual,in cases like this, for supporters of either club to complain to the Conference about incidents such as this.....its happened before, and the Authorities have taken appropriate action.......if that did happen perhaps it would give a message and useful feedback to clubs such as GT that they need to ensure segregation is in place for the big games and at least that they should have a police presence in the ground......the Authorities should be really made aware as to what happened....

Think yourselves lucky at the richest club in the world MAN CITY yesterday, they had to use the giant screens to apologise for running out of CHIPS ;D ;D.
I think we are all eating more chips lately because of the economic situation >:(

I did point my camera towards the scuffle but it was getting rather gloomy and my camera doesn't cope well with gloom. It produces very grainy pictures - especially when I'm also at the far end of the stand and have to zoom in a lot as well. I need to mug Shippers and run off with one of his.  ;D

I am saving up for a new camera for Christmas though, so there should be an improvement in picture quality soon.  8)
