I was stood directly behind Oxo and had a birds eye view of the disgraceful events this afternoon.
At the start of the second half about a dozen Gainsborough lads walked across the stand in front of the Boston fans singing a song questioning our sexual habits (which I'll admit I thought was both witty and clever, probably says something about me and my sense of humour rather than them) and positioned themselves at the rear of the stand behind and to the right of the Boston fans. In my opinion this is when the stewards shoud have realised the potential for trouble and created a presence.
About 25 minutes into the second half a thug in a white jumper moved to the front and began confronting the main body of Boston supporters using familiar come and have a go hand gestures, to which they retaliated using chants only. At this point the remainder of the Gainsborough thugs ran to the front and the leader of the band threw his chips into the face of a Boston fan who understandably retaliated with his fists.
A melee resulted as described by Oxo, with which I wholeheartedly agree other than to say the Gainsborough mob got a bloody good hiding which I don't think they were expecting.
To me, this action sums up the club. nouveau riche and totally classless. No thought given as to how to cope with a larger crowd, although it can hardly have been unexpected, try and buy success on the pitch and the hell with the detail. I also agree with Oxo that if it had happened at York Street we'd be lucky to have Sunday pub league next season.
Other than that well done to all the lads this afternoon, brilliant result.
