The 1964/5 season was particularly bad. It was the season when the club had gone bust and Boston Town had formed but Ernest Malkinson refused to let them play at York Street and decided he'd keep the United name going by putting out a team of kids in the Boston & District League. Not surprisingly they lost lots of games by big scores - two 14-0 defeats that I know about - one at home to British Railways in the League and the other against Splading in the FA Cup. I'm still missing the last two results for that season so there could be a record breaking defeat in there as one of them is the away match against British Railways! If anyone knows the missing two results then let me know so I can complete the archive.

Surprisingly few in my time as a fan despite years going up and down the leagues.
So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.

So the last time we lost at Altrincham conceding 6 or more, we got to the Trophy final?!

That's a bit misleading though. The 7-2 defeat against Altrincham in 1984-85 was the last match before the Wembley final. And I think the reason we lost the game so heavily might have had something to do with the fact that we were resting players for the following week. Ray O'Brien, Ian Ladd, Gary Simpson, Chris Cook and Bob Lee all started at Wembley but none of them started against Altrincham.

Did we lose so heavily on Saturday because we were resting players for Histon?

Qoute:- "Even after a soccer team loses 10 consecutive matches, a fan might persist in the belief that his team can reverse its bad luck. A new research says a 'faulty' function of the brain's frontal lobe is the reason for such optimism."

your right we did rest players for the game, but we also played about 10 games
In 4 weeks.I remember it as I made the journey Thinking I could take the piss
As we were going to wembley and they were not.
Don't think our players were interested in the game especially when the tackles started
Flying in they were rough that night.
Only remember Cranes goal as was at loo when I think it was mallender scored.
