Boston need a player to sit in front of the back four to protect them and provide an outlet for the defence instead of the hoofed ball.  This player would be the fulcrum for forward, diagonal passes to set up moves.  Most teams who come here have one and it allows more control and possession.

I thought it was suposed to be Hall, but he gets out of position chasing the ball forward.  We have enough midfielders who can get forward, but now someone to sit tight in the middle.  I believe Hall could still do that job but he needs to be told!
United we stand..................

I actually don't think there is a problem with midfield-it's more about setting up the right way.Given that Ben Wlikinson is injured and we still have Danny Sleath to come back i think we have enough quality and options there. The problems are at the heart of the defence and up front.
In the two home games there have been common denominators at both ends of the pitch. Both Histon and Vauxhall Motors had a couple of quick forwards-and both times we struggled to cope-particularly at centre back.At the other end of the pitch against Histon we created enough chances to win three games but had no-one to put them away.Against V.M.,as poor as we were for large parts of the game,we still created 4/5 good chances, and again failed to take advantage. We need a "fox in the box" type finisher and a centre back with a bit of pace.Without them i can see results like the Vauxhall game being repeated during the season.

I think both sides should put aside their egos and we should resign SWD

Try Holsgrove at centre forward - he would give any centre backs a torrid time!

Need to start with a goalkeeper to calm the back 4 (not Drury)

Right, so now we've established we need a load more new players, anyone got any ideas how the budget can stretch to bringing them all in?

Oh it's just that simple. ::)

We've got a fox in the box 'Newsham' who just needs to find his feet at this level and we have a target man in Suarez to return.  We're missing Sleaths workrate as he carries the ethos of last years side on his sleeve.  4-3-3 looked massively better than 4-4-2, but I agree that a settled back 4 seems to be what we need (again we didn't get that til a month or so into the season last year either and leaked 3 at a shocking Harrogate side early on.)

No side ever ends the season with the same 11 it starts with and most sides settle down after a few non starters don't make the grade... Gareth Davies anyone?
So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.

Agree with Bostonshire about the midfield as I have posted on another thread. I thought the midfield looked better on Tuesday than last year - working together, getting up and back, and linking the play well. Millson has impressed me in both games, and it was noticeable that we improved when he came on on Saturday. I'm confident Newsham will score when he gets service, rather than the hoofs we put up in the first half on Saturday, but agree that we need to do something about the defence. I was talking to a Grimsby supporter on Saturday morning and saying that I thought we had played better football on Tuesday than we did mostly last season - little did I know that we were going to revert to type in the first half v Vauxhall. He said that the Codheads don't like the type of football they're being served up this season!
