GRIMSBY Town have today agreed terms with former Boston United defender Shaun Pearson on a two-year deal.
The 22-year-old's signing will not come as much of a shock after constant speculation linking him with a switch to the Mariners was confirmed at the weekend by the club.
Now a deal is tied up ahead of the start of pre-season training tomorrow, though Town will have to go to an FA tribunal hearing after failing to agree a compensation package for his registration with the Pilgrims.
It's the second time bosses Rob Scott and Paul Hurst have signed the talented centre-back and Hurst is naturally happy to have him on board next season.
And he hopes the raw talent he has can be honed at Blundell Park.
Hurst said: "Shaun is a player we have worked with for the past two seasons and he has been a regular in our sides.
"He is a traditional centre-back, likes to defend, tackle and keep clean sheets.
"Hopefully we can develop his game at Grimsby Town because he is still young and learning the game; he is by no means the finished article."
The Spalding-born defender may still be in the early days of his football education but his end-of-term reports haven't been bad so far.
He was player of the year at first club Spalding in 2007/8 and then again the following season at Stamford.
In the summer of 2009, Pearson moved to Boston for an undisclosed fee and helped the Pilgrims win promotion and two other trophies.
He also won five Player of the Year awards and scored nine goals.
Pearson's second season at Boston was almost as successful as the first; both at club and at an individual level.
He made 36 starts for the club, scoring 11 goals, and helped the Pilgrims to third in the Blue Square North, losing out to Guiseley in the play-off semi final.
He also picked up the Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season, as well as Player's Player of the Year and two others.
But the lure of full-time football, and the end of his studies, proved too much for him to stay on at York Street and now Town fans will be hoping he keeps putting in the performances, and proving a goal threat; features of his game that saw him attract the attention of Sheffield United last season.
Pearson is Town's fifth new face this summer; all of whom will get the chance to meet their new team-mates when training gets underway tomorrow.
