Communication is key
« on: June 26, 2011, 06:02:25 AM »
While other teams around us appear to have done most of there business in the transfer market, we seem to be prepared to wait for trials once pre-season starts.Yes, i know Jas and Canners appear very relaxed about the whole situation, but the lack of positive feedback from the managers on our O/S will create negative reaction from amongst the fans.
What is the position with Spencer Weir Daley?
Do we have key players targeted to improve the squad?
What type of player are we looking for to improve our squad?
Anything to lift the boredom of waiting for the new season would help?
Do we have any rumours of being linked to top strikers at this level,or a midfield general etc....

Have to agree there.

This pre-season has been very boring even though it is still only June!

Very very quite though and because there has'nt been alot of communication it does'nt really get the juices flowing in anticipation of the next month or so! Especially when you see other clubs in this division making all sorts of decent signings. (prob on silly money though)

Just does'nt seem alot is going on, although it most probably is but just dont get to know about it.
A moaney clapper!......... best of both worlds

I prefer the quiet approach, wait until the contract signed before announcing anything, that way you cannot alert another club who will outbid you...

Also, maybe the targets they are after are on their summer hols which would delay things even more..

As for SWD,Craig tweeted in the week that a decision would be made by the weekend after he had met with Canners and Jase earlier in the week, well it is now Sunday so guess that decision won't be announced yet..

From the new article on the O/S, it looks as though someone at the club has taken note of these comments!

It makes sense for the club to have a look at players in training and maybe a pre-season game before signing them, so I've got no problem with this - much better than signing them without seeing them in action.

The only thing to be wary of is other clubs stealing players from under our nose before we've signed them, but this can work both ways (sounds as if Corby expected to retain Jordan Fairclough).

There are so many players looking for new clubs every summer that we should be able to get a decent selection of trialists and hopefully fill the gaps that we have in our squad.

Personally I hope SWD does sign for another year - all our strikers were troubled by injuries last season, and until he picked up an injury SWD was scoring plenty of goals.  If they all have a good pre-season and stay fit, we should be looking for 40 goals in total from Newsh, SWD + a target man (Mikel or AN Other).  If, like last season, two of them get long term injuries in pre-season, we could struggle for goals again.

Good early close-season signings used to be seen as a way to sell  extra season tickets .
Maybe this is not in the equation any more ..

The way I look at is if Tommy Taylor can put together a squad capable of 11th in about a week then theres no tremendoes rush at the moment

It's the changing world of football - in days gone by there were limited numbers of decent players available so you wanted to get them signed up early.  Now there are so many players without clubs every summer, many of whom don't want to commit until late in pre-season because they want to see what offers they get, that it makes sense to be patient.

It means we might get a good player for a few weeks in pre-season who ultimately gets an offer from a higher level (as happened with Prendergast a couple of years ago), but similarly we can scout players who are playing pre-season games for other teams, knowing that many of them won't have committed themselves for the season at this stage.

Let's see how we are looking after a few pre-season games.

Science will always change . .  ( I see they want to double 'pi' to 6.28 ? )

Surely if they double "pi" it will make everything rwice as big. Pi x r squared, or 2pi r and all that jazz.   ::)
