In December 2009 I posted a copy of the above photo which provoked an interesting debate as to the date of the photo. (See
http://www.bufc.drfox.org.uk/forum/index.php?topic=737.0 for original posting).
At the Carrington Steam Rally I came across an old friend, Neil Watson, who I hadn't seen for a number of years. As well as being the official photographer for the rally he is also an aficionado on Boston Mayfair. In fact he had several aerial shots of the fair on his display.
As a result, Neil has been able to give a firm date to the image and it is much earlier than any of us thought. It was actually taken in 1914. It can be dated by the fact that The Scala Picture House opened March 1914 whilst the large tent structure is a travelling cinema known as Asplands Bioscope Show which made its last appearance in 1914.
Not only could he date the photo but in his collection he has a large scale negative of it!

Could this be the oldest photo showing the complete 'ground'/pitch?
