Boston United set to submit ground plans
« on: March 30, 2011, 04:39:14 PM »
Boston United chairman David Newton says the Pilgrims could submit a planning application for a new ground by the end of the year.

United have seven years left to run on the lease agreement at their current York Street home.

Newton told BBC Lincolnshire: "It [the ground] is a priority because time is ticking on the lease.

"We want to be in a new ground as it's a key part of our plans to move the club forward."

Newton added that a preferred location has been selected from a shortlist of three and that the new site would be "mixed-use with some commercial development".

He continued: "We want to move forward, but equally it's got to be affordable and viable.

"We'd like to think we'd get that resolved and put a planning application in this year.

"It's got to be paid for and that's got to be from enabling works and other funding as well."

York Street owners the Malkinson family have already told Boston that they must vacate the ground when the lease expires.

Not sure if this is new news or not, but Craig posted the link on Twitter. Thoughts?

think it needs to be as close to town as possible like now, or a bit out as long as they could do buses from town or something simular!!

There was a rumour that it could be in a field close to Boston Bowl off Rochford Tower Lane on the east side of Boston, but I've got no idea on how much truth there is in it.

I was born in Lindsey, but I have a Dutch Surname.

The divisions go back to Saxon times (or possibly earlier). Some counties were sub-divided for purposes of law enforcement (Assizes), and Lincolne Scire consisted of three parts, one of which was the parts of Hol Land (Hollow or low land). As with other counties, a further sub-division is into Deaneries (e.g. Candleshoe) and further into Wapentakes, of which Kirton and Skirbeck are surviving names. Finally the basic divisions are Parishes.

Why black and amber? Happy coincidence, but I believe that the club took its colours from the coat of arms of the borough (three amber royal crowns on a black shield). These have been the colours of Boston Grammar School since the days of Mary Tudor. The only other borough permitted royal crowns is Kingston-upon-Hull.

I am sure that this is the case. If it's not, then I'll be a Dutchman!

Shouldn't be surprised that it will be in the area where the orignal plans were submitted - near the "white elephant stadium" or whatever it is called... ???

Has anyone ever seen that in use??

I remember the rumours before about the PRA and paying a rail line to be built for supporter access...

Whatever happens, at least we know it will all done professionally planning-wise this time around.

David Newton and Neil Kempster will have huge experience of how the planning regulations through Chestnut.

The Des Wood and Sotnick/Rodwell planning applications were a joke which never stood a chance of meeting the planning regulations.

DN and NK will do it all properly.
