Adam is running the Virgin London Marathon - THIS SUNDAY!
« on: March 22, 2011, 05:23:53 PM »
... to post this but as its so busy   ;)

To quickly summarise this is a post about me running the London Marathon next month and yes it will include a link to a donation page - just so you know like and can stop reading further if you wish...

Thanks for sticking with me.  As I say on 17th April 2011 I will be attempting to run the London Marathon, this is help to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Alzheimer’s is a truly horrific disease that can strike anyone without cause and is up to now incurable. The disease has terrible effects on the brain of the sufferer and also creates a horrible experience for the friends and families for those sufferers as they can do little to help as their loved ones become progressively worse with most Alzheimer’s patients inevitably ending up in full time care; essentially waiting for their body to shut down.

Unfortunately one of my closest friends lost his father to Alzheimer's at the end of last year so I have seen at close quarters how dementia can devastate not only a person but the family and friends surrounding them.  Hopefully I can help raise funds to aid the research of this disease and to make the life of current sufferers and also their families and support networks more bearable.

If you would like to make a donation please visit my Just Giving page (don’t forget the Gift Aid!) found here; www.justgiving.com/mupsall

In order to learn more about the work that the Alzheimer’s Society do please visit; www.alzheimers.org.uk/

Thank you
Adam

I keep forgetting to do it when I see your training updates.  What sorta time are you looking at doing?  I'll time my donation to the point when you would have passed me a my BUFC flag on Canary Wharf (my usual viewing/cheer spot) just past the TV cameras.
So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.

Thanks!

The plan is 4h30m and I'm just about on track for that through my training.  Getting close now and starting to feel it with the long runs.

Will keep an eye out for the flag!

The flag won't be there this year, she is taking a rest from it this year.

I reckon you've got your training spot on and barring disasters and with a bit of luck you won't be far off breaking 4 hours.

Steady Ken you will go getting hopes up!

Aim 1 is to finish then aim 2 is a respectable time given my training.  But the REASON is to raise CASH - www.justgiving.com/mupsall

Could we start a prediction thread for this one?

How long it takes and number of blisters perhaps  ;)

RIGHT!  Getting very close now, went down and registered yesterday, so look out for 33957!

The BBC Red Button service has a finish line camera so i'm told and with a bit of luck and a lot of effort i'll be there approx 2:15pm.

So look out for the Amber and Black shorts.  Donation page still open and any/all very gratefully received; www.justgiving.com/mupsall

Thank you so much for the support!

Looks like Adam finished in 04:49:38 - a highly creditable performance in his first marathon, especially given that it was a very warm day down in London.

Very well done.

It's not about the time, the medal, the achievement or the experience.  It's about making a difference - www.justgiving.com/mupsall.

Thanks to each any everyone of you who supported me along the way, especially the other Pilgrims fan running with me for a while on route, it really was amazing.

And Ken is spot on with the official time, however they had me down as a Zambian for some reason!!!

I think you can see the photo of me back at the pub with medal in hand here;
