Is Randy Lerner off his trolley ??

No more money for Martin O'Neill to spend and then splash out £24,000,000 on Darren Bent.

Whatever next !!

It's a lot of money for a carthorse but he's a safe money bet cos he'll get 20 a season in any side.  20 a season keeps you in the premier with all the trimmings which earns the club a lot more than the initial outlay.
So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky.

98 goals in 5 years in all competitions doesn't sound like a rip off to me! Well no more than anyone being worth £24mil is!
Only Rooney and Drogba have a better record in the league and that's only better by one goal, not what I'd call a "carthorse"!

My 20 a season estimate wasn't far from the mark though was it?

He's still a donkey work player though, there is very little finesse about what he does.  He is direct, powerful and hard working with a eye for goal.

I believe that the point of this posting is "why was O'Neill told that he couldn't have any money to improve his team?"

As a regular-ish Villa goer, I was astounded when I heard the news - but delighted nonetheless. He could honestly be the difference between staying up and going down and if he does keep Villa up, the price tag is irrelevant given TV monies involved for next season.

The general feeling is that MON was given no more money having wasted a fair bit on squad players that he never used and/or proved not to be good enough.

There is no getting away from the fact that he has cost a fortune, and for a player with some limitations.

But, the boy scores goals, and that is all that matters to a striker and to the buying club.

He will keep Villa up, and of course he can do nothing about the price that the clubs have agreed.

Good business for Sunderland strictly in terms of finance, but they will have to replace him, and quickly if they are not to slide down the table.

they have more than capable strikers in Gyan and Welbeck, so they can go back to 4-4-2 and pocket the £18/24m.
