Player of the noughties
« on: August 13, 2010, 01:28:31 PM »
In the banner across the top of my BUFC history website I've got a player from each of the decades.

So it's got Frank Bungay for the 30s, Fred Tunstall for the 40s, Ray Middleton for the 50s, etc.

But another decade has passed so I need a player from the 00s. I think there's only one person to fit the bill - namely Paul Ellender, but do you think I should consider anyone else?

Good call, has to be Ellender.  Shame he never got his testimonial match (or did he?).

Yeah it has to be Ellender, even if he was an absolute utter ar*ehole throughout our away game at Retford last season.

Thats is style a devotion to the course wherever he plays. deffinitly elly for me to, stuck with us throu thick and thin and only left when it became clear that the contract would have a massive impact on his personnel live

To take issue Ken . . although Jim Smith was a catalyst he only became player /manager August 69 which leaves a lot of the decade to cover . .
I would have a change to someone around in the mid 60,s . . Don Donovan or the late Jimmy Rayner

If it has to be a player then it should be Paul Ellender as first choice with Peter Costello in second. Does it have to be a player though that features on the banner?

We ended the decade with a club that we're proud of again, but we came so close to losing the club altogether during those ten years. In recognition of that fact, maybe the face that represents the decade should be someone from off the pitch rather than somone on it?
