That is still the my commanding memory of that day.  I can recall very little about probably the biggest game in our history, just the horrible sight on the silent TVs as we left - not knowing what had happened and where until switching the radio on in the car.

I knew nothing about the fire on the day itself.

We had gone to Wembley on a privately run bus, and went into London after the game.  We picked up the coach again outside Kings Cross station at around midnight, picking up the Sunday paper as we did so, and obviously the fire was front page news.

A sad day indeed, but with finding out late, my memory of the game is as vivid as the day after - what a goal Cookie!!!!!

Still, that aside, it is a day of reflection, and condolences to all affected. The only good news to come from the tragedy was the way in which stadiums were forced to be updated, and look at the quality of the stadia that we have today.

I can't believe that 25 years have passed tho.

Ah I wuz there!
Had a look at the Wealdstone forum...

Look what they've been through since on the text I copy below - maybe we should give em a pre-season friendly at the new Wembley? And Radio Lincoln gave us top billing that day and a commentary team of John & Des too. Tremendous.

I wonder how people would have reacted in 1985 if we'd been told:
Relegation to the Southern League Premier would soon come.
We'd lose in the FA Cup to Ruislip Manor, a team 3 levels below.
The club would sell Lower Mead within 6 years.
We would pay over £2 million to see out 2 seasons at Watford.
The club would be relegated again to level 3.
The club would be within a whisker of going out of business in 1992/93.
We'd constantly get dicked by Harrow Borough.
We'd groundshare at Yeading, Edgware and Northwood over the next 17 years.
We'd put our heart and soul into building a ground of our own, and then see it go tits up.
We'd end up finding a 'permanent' home at Ruislip Manor.
We'd not reach the FA Cup 1st round for over 23 years.

Its amazing, and a tribute to all invovled at the club that we're still going really!

Excuse me LP, perhaps I'm missing something here, but tell me what has your post got to do with the terrible events that happened at Bradford ???

LP is referring to the BUFC related part of 25 years ago today, the trip to Wembley.

On the Bradford fire the footage, on YouTube i think(?), is a stark reminder about how quickly such fires can spread.  Shocking and moving.

Apologies Bartmac.
I should have added line about the terrible events at Valley Parade.
However, let's not forget our trip to Wembley.
