Paul Hurst admits members of Unibond League Premier Division Boston United's promotion chasing squad could soon become prey for Football League vultures. But the Pilgrim's joint boss insistshis talented young guns can move up the non-league pyramid by remaining at York Street.
United's spectacular post-Christmas run has catapulted Hurst and Rob Scott's side into title contention and made the side almost dead certainties for a play-off spot at least.Hurst reckons it has also pricked the ears of clubs in higher divisions, including League Two.
"There's always scouts coming to Boston to watch and we always felt that woluld be the case"said Hurst whose side host Frickley Athletic on Good Friday and visit Hucknall Town on Monday."I would like to think there would be a lot of interest in our players, but a lot of those players we would like to keep.Hopefully it'll be a case of moving forward with us.But for instance if a couple of League Two sides come in for some of our players,i don't expect to keep them. That's a fact.We feel confident we've got a lot of players within the dressing room who can play higher, whether that's League Two,the Blue Square Premier or the league above us.Some have had a go at it and their aim will to be try and get back there. There are a couple of lads at the other end of the scale that have never played higher, but have adapted well to this league." The likes of defender Shaun Pearson, midfielder Anthony Church and forward Mark Newsham, who have impressed all season, could be on the radar of other clubs. So far only club skipper Lee Canoville is contracted to the club for next season.
