Strikers
« on: November 08, 2016, 09:53:00 AM »
Just thinking about our strikers. Is it fair to say that we only really have one striker out of the four registered that is any good ?

Fairhurst - 15 Appearances (1 goal)
Colley - 10 Appearances (1 goal)
Johnson - 11 Appearances (0 goals)
Smith - 16 Appearances (6 goals)

Really disappointed with both Fairhurst and Colley. I would have thought that if they were going to be any good for us / get themselves fit then they would have been able to demonstrate this by November.

Hope PC / DG / MB are looking to get someone better in (even if on loan). An over reliance on Smith isn't good, particularly with his disciplinary record.

Rollins has played most of the season up front, his record is 15 League apperances, 5 goals. He and Smith seem to play well together.

we've been extremely lucky having Dayle and Ricky Miller the last 3 seasons - only now do we realise exactly how good they have been....

By my reckoning, stats per min on the field could be: -

Fairhurst 766 mins - 1 goal = 766 mins per goal
Colley  377 mins - 1 goal = 377 mins per goal
Johnson  240 mins - 0 goals
Smith  1720 mins - 6 goals = 287 mins per goal
Rollins  1530 mins - 5 goals = 306 mins per goal (half of his appearances were in midfield).

So effectively, 3 strikers are redundant. They never even look like they are going to score.

which could well be the exact reason Paul Cavell has joined the ranks. Maybe he's still fit enough to have 20 minutes and show how it's done?

If Fairhurst gets fitter I still think he could be a good signing . He's a lot better than we are seeing of him

The thing is Mike, how long do you wait for him to get fit ?

I sit near another fan who says he has watched him elsewhere before. He reckons that once he scores, he won't stop, it's just getting the first couple. However, I remember Mark Jones had the same issues, and never did hit a good patch last year, despite his previous exploits, so just how long is it reasonable to wait. I do agree with MBBoots, and I do think there is something there, but as you say, how long to wait is the question. 3 Halifax fans sat near us at the last home game, one of his former clubs, and their take was to be patient with him. Apparently, patience is a virtue? The bottom line is though, the goals aren't going in, and that's what forwards are paid to do.
