Never really saw this one in doubt really. Hopefully he has been given a one year contract as the details haven't been stated.

Not quite sure how the 'option of another year' works? Is it the option of the player? the club? triggered by performance such amount of appearances?

Could be any of those. Often, either or both the player and club can extend it.

For example, Man United extended Berbatov's contract a couple of seasons ago by an extra year, by option, so that they could sell him, rather than lose him for free.
