The B-Ark / First look and first impressions
« on: August 10, 2016, 10:02:39 AM »
Strangely positive after that last night, expected what I saw really, lots of energy and effort but a distinct lack of communication and coordination.

The communication as others have said is leadership, we have lost massive personalities since last season.  Interesting that Jay Rollins said post-match on Saturday how different the changing room is.  Given by full time he was the only player from last season on the pitch for us it shows what a massive shift in such a short space of time it is.

Compare that to a very strong Harrogate side who were up there with us last season and have kept their best and added well, no wonder we are short of them.

If Maguire is to continue with the armband then silly bookings like last night need to be cut right out.  He could easily have just either knocked the ball short, or taken it with him and dropped it as you see so often, to stop a quick break rather than booting it miles away and picking up a card.  He did well to stay on the pitch with a questionable challenge in the 2nd half.  On that the ref was in need of some calming down, how many bookings in the first half? Amazed it ended 11 v 11!

Wade clearly has ability, no doubting that at all, but frankly his work rate was limited by that lack of fitness, that needs fixing quickly.  Not knocking his effort at all, kept going for the full 90 but he needs to be sharper.

Likewise all the lads dug in which was very pleasing, at 2-0 when a few chances have been missed I wondered if we would see heads drop, not a bit of it, worked hard and made more chances even into injury time.

Wide we looked strong, end product will come, quite possibly with Smith coming in on Saturday?  St Juste and Rollins I like a lot and also Courtney Wildin had a fantastic run towards the end.  We have good players who need to become a team quickly with a lot of expectation and pressure on them, it won’t be easy.  There will be misplaced passes, confused calls, poor corner routines – because it’s so early and it’s such a new side.  BUT the effort and energy is there, no player gave in and nor should we.

I'm reminded of Chris Cooks programme comments of a couple of years back, young players need encouragement, I made a point of getting near the tunnel and clapping them off and giving words of encouragement as they left the field.  They looked flat, as you would expect and also good they don't want to be happy with a defeat no matter how well they performed, but they need a lift and we can give it to them.  Get to games if you can, I know it’s not easy (says a season ticket holder who lives in Leeds!) but we can help turn this around rather than accept it.

Missed Saturday so tonight will be my first attempt at learning the new names/faces.  Will be interesting with the 3G pitch as I'm sure it will be an advantage to play them so early on it. Hope we can get something positive, get off the mark with goals scored and points earned, I'm not expecting play offs this season but given my predictions have been pretty poor in recent years I'm not the man to ask.

And at least with the change in surface Dennis can wear those shoes again with a bit more confidence!

Really enjoyed the day yesterday, well organised and plenty for the boys to do. Was nice for the boys to walk about on the pitch and the eldest has already started asking about coming to games and the youngest found it amazing that someone else had the same shirt on as him!  Not many other 2 year olds around Leeds wear them strangely enough.

Now if we can just get some of the new shirts sorted in their sizes...  :)

David Newton certainly thinks so, and when was the last time that guy got anything wrong?!

Exactly, he got the entire food order spot on yesterday (correct change) and the wife said the burger (with onions) Chris Cook did was great.  Which really is what you want from your board members to be honest.

Picked up my season ticket but will be missing the first game, looking forward to Harrogate away and all that follows, but not expecting to be amazed as it will take time.  Clearly there will be those on a downer if we are not 3 up by half time (and some who will still be if we are) but as said on the field DG has earned the right for time.

Now this is the attitude!

Although really, come on, supporters have given the guy abuse after one dodgy half against a better side in pre-season?!?!  What chance to players have if this is the 'welcome' they get.

Well after all the doom and gloom of Brexit yesterday's FT index finished on an eleven month high.  Explain that ???

Speculation on an interest rate cut, plus back in February it dropped significantly as fears over the Chinese economy surfaced so its position is better to be reviewed over a greater period of time.

From a personal perspective I have seen all UK based roles either pulled or moved (which is also reflected in the wider market; http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/uk-job-vacancies-fall-700000-in-the-week-after-brexit-data-shows-a7124686.html) for the company I work for, not ideal when I'm facing possible redundancy - directly linked to the Oil/Gas downturn and also pushing manufacturing to either Germany, Italy, Brazil or Asia off the back of Brexit fears, long before the actual vote.

Over 2,000 engineers (highly skilled professionals) down to 1,200 at the Leeds plant in the last 18 months, expected now to drop to 800 by the end of the year.  Giving those guys a Union flag and saying 'we have our country back' does not really cheer them up. No idea why.

No forensic examination needed, it's just bollocks.

But hey it's my opinion and I'm allowed it, unless the boo hiss nasty EU bogeymen take it away with their mythical EU army (of Turks) tooled up with ISIS sympathising brown faced baddies! Seen as we are run by them...

Interesting bit from the WSC article on the finals day.  An original and advertised plan was to allow supporters to come and go through the day.  Meaning you did't have to sit there for two hours between games and could soak up atmosphere outside during the build up or get food/drink away from the ground.  For some reason in the run up (after a lot of neutrals had purchased tickets) this was cancelled and you had to stay in and no re-admittance allowed.  Might have helped keep some in the ground for the second game and also got some more there for the first?

Wembley would be a great change, also like the all on one day idea.  Not a fan of extending the number of clubs in the playoffs though as LP says would be a bit odd.

Bumped into a Grimsby fan while visiting the National Football Museum today (which if you get the chance try and visit, its fantastic) and told him what a good player they were getting.  Only fair I guess since they gifted us Dayle  :)

I'll look at video tomorrow MaxRoss.
A lad I know posed the question " if we were out of eu and the referendum was to go IN. Would you vote to go in"?
Interesting question I thought.

Interesting but if that were the case we would be in a completely different position to now.

Either we would be sitting pretty in a Brexit wonderland, so let's stay OUT.  Or we would be scratching around trying to get on while everyone else was doing great, get us IN.

Martin Lewis made a good summary for me, if you think things are ok or you don't want to risk things getting worse then vote Remain.  If you think things are bad and are willing to RISK them getting EVEN worse OR that they MIGHT get better then vote Out.

At least Gove and Farage are just good old fashioned fruitloops.

Made me chuckle  :)

Then I realised they actually are being taken seriously by a significant amount of the population.  :(

Very much along the lines of the 'don't believe a word of it' is this from Boris - whichever way the wind blows!
https://t.co/s08o9nTl8s

In short he is out for his own personal gain (shot at being PM) so the guy is a complete bandwagon jumper.  With Gove just in behind to pick up the scraps.

I absolutely detest how politicians and business leaders alike are playing so fast and loose with the economy and the faith voters have in democracy to either climb the greasy pole or get headlines.  Sadly not surprised by it though.
