The B-Ark / Low morale in Gloucester
« on: March 04, 2013, 10:18:58 PM »
Gloucester City may be relegated at the end of the season if they fail to pay the rent owed to Cheltenham and may be evicted from Whaddon Road before the end of the season needing to find a venue for their final two matches.

The B-Ark / Reserves hit Nine
« on: April 23, 2012, 09:27:14 PM »
In a match played in awful weather (and consequent low crowd) the reserves efficiently disposed of Ruston Sports by nine goals to nil on Saturday. Ruston seldom threatened and at times struggled to get out of their own half. Having lost 6-2 to United in the Supplementary Cup and now 9-0 in the league Ruston must be sick of the sight of us! Unfortunately for Ruston they have to do it all over again next Saturday at their place as the fixture list pits the two teams together for the return fixture!!!!

Here's a few pix from the match:

The B-Ark / United go above Trinity!
« on: August 15, 2011, 10:10:58 PM »
Pilgrims went above Trinity tonight without even playing. Trinity's 3-0 drubbing at Hinckley gives them an inferior goal difference.
Vauxhall Motors also lost tonight 2-0 away to Worcester. Their second defeat leaving them rock bottom with their next match an away day to Bostonshire. That's Worcester and Gloucester having put 2 goals past them with no reply.

Scam Warning: Microsoft Global Tech Support
'
Received a phone call from the above 'company' earlier this evening. Their patter and MO was exactly as described in the article below. It sounded as though it was from an Indian call centre.  They wanted access to my computer in order to put the problem right. As I had never heard of them I declined their offer and then googled the scam. Don't know if they are targetting this area but thought I would just make fellow patterers aware of this scam.

In the line of private detective work we regularly hear about cons and scams. Some will get found out quite early on, others will stay under the radar for quite some time and are eventually brought to an end. However, perhaps the worst kind of scam is one that comes and goes. Some of you may have already had this, it has been around a while but it seems to be rearing its ugly head again.

You get a call claiming to be to Microsoft Global Tech Support or similar. They tell you that they have detected that you have received malware on the computer and they will put you through to a tech who can sort it out. Another guy comes on and asks you to go to your computer and takes you through to your event viewer. This will show errors that have occurred on your system. So far so plausible. But the whole point is that everybody at some time will have these errors but they claim they have a solution but they need to take over your computer to ‘sort it out’.

BIG RED FLAG – Don’t let anybody you don’t know take over your computer remotely!

If you let these guys in they will load on software which will cause serious problems. They will then try and scam you for money to get the software to work. But if you’ve got this far you’ve totally had it. If you pay – and it seems the amounts are £150 – £200 for the ‘upgrade’ it still won’t work. And they have your credit card details and have had access to all the data on your computer – just use your imagination what this can mean.

This scam is being operated out of Pakistan and India. If at any time you want to call a halt they’ll happily give you a name and UK number to call back on. In some cases they will even refer you to a website which looks genuine.

Don’t fall for it. It is feasible that when you get an application crash and you report it to Microsoft that Microsoft could link the IP address to any software that you might have registered with them which might have included your telephone from the same PC. But if they went to all that trouble why couldn’t they tell me what operating system I was using? There is no way any call like this could be coming from anybody authorised by Microsoft to do so. There is a private investigator in all of us, some might call it intuition or instinct

The B-Ark / May Fair Mystery Resolved
« on: June 02, 2011, 11:10:04 AM »

In December 2009 I posted a copy of the above photo which provoked an interesting debate as to the date of the photo. (See http://www.bufc.drfox.org.uk/forum/index.php?topic=737.0 for original posting).

At the Carrington Steam Rally I came across an old friend, Neil Watson, who I hadn't seen for a number of years. As well as being the official photographer for the rally he is also an aficionado on Boston Mayfair. In fact he had several aerial shots of the fair on his display.

As a result, Neil has been able to give a firm date to the image and it is much earlier than any of us thought. It was actually taken in 1914. It can be dated by the fact that The Scala Picture House opened March 1914 whilst the large tent structure is a travelling cinema known as Asplands Bioscope Show which made its last appearance in 1914.

Not only could he date the photo but in his collection he has a large scale negative of it!

Could this be the oldest photo showing the complete 'ground'/pitch?

The B-Ark / Photos from Saturday
« on: April 17, 2011, 09:39:32 PM »
Spent Saturday morning test driving my back up camera along with a lens that I hadn't used much or for some time. As the results were quite encouraging and I had it with me in the car I decided to take it with me to the match and took some 'tourist' photos from my usual seat. Click on link below to see a selection of pictures from the Hyde game.

The B-Ark / 10 man reserves go down in Semi-final Clash.

Some pix from todays hard fought clash with Horncastle Town where the reserves went down 1-0 to an extra time goal. This was a close encounter with the defining moment probably being the first half dismissal of United defender Tom Ward for bringing an opponent down who was through on goal
A great penalty save later in the match by the pilgrims goalkeeper kept them in the game but the killer punch came in the first half of extra time when Horncastle finally found the back of the Pilgrims net. Although down to 10 men for most of the match the Pilgrims competed throughout the match but the extra time began to tell a bit, especially once the goal had gone in.

Here's a few pix from last nights entertaining match where the reserves gained a creditable 1-0 victory over their nearest competitors, Hykeham Town.

If we win the Lincs League where do we go next?

Another good win for the reserves as they brushed aside Horncastle Town 5-1. Particularly pleasing to see the lads eventually run out as comfortable winners against such an unsporting side. Nuff said!!!!!
