Good quality 15 minute clip of the Darlington game now on You Tube. Interesting stuff.

Has George Greene gone AWOL? He was missing from the Sutton squad, no explaination, he was missing from the Darlington squad, no explaination. In between we have a surprise signing[Woolford] of a supposedly attacking midfielder. 2+2=4? I am half-expecting an announcement that his contract has been "terminated by mutual consent". I really hope I'm wrong.

Hallelujah! Another 11,000+ in the kitty. A home tie next please. Quick summing up.

 1. The back 4 were never in any serious trouble. I can't recall Crook having to make a tricky save.
Ainge got subbed on the hour. Hope he hasn't picked up an injury. The lad from Mansfield filled in admirably.
 2. The midfield was hotly contested for 90 minutes. Sutton were physical and Abbott in particular will have some tasty bruises tomorrow.
 3. Upfront was a little worrying. Thewlis missed a sitter after 10 minutes that would have put us in the driving seat. Him and Knowles didn't look dangerous very often.

N.B.1: The pitch would be great for table-tennis, not football.
2: Knowles' penalty was pitiful. More like a backpass to the keeper.
3: There was a massive set-to near the dug-outs in injury time. At one time there were over 20 people in a tight circle, probably trying to stop punches being thrown.
      4. I thought Walker just shaded MOM.

Bingo!!! I can get a bus to the game! Sutton Coldfield is a well-off suburb on the North-East fringe of Birmingham. Strangely, the next district in, Kingstanding, is rough to put it mildly. 5th of October, can't wait.

Ye Gods! United win a FA Cup tie! I asked last night if this season's squad were bothered about the FA Cup. I am delighted to report the answer is yes! I'm not daft, I know we won't make the 3rd round and Liverpool away, but if we could reach the 1st round proper and get featured on MOTD, that would be an achievement.

N.B.1 I know I sound like a stuck record but George Greene has still not been given a chance.
N.B.2 The girls down the chippie are rather keen on my away top.

The B-Ark / Stamford FA Cup Away

Before a ball is kicked, I want to be clear to everyone. Over the last 15 years our performances in the FA cup have been putrid. Peterborough Sports last season was the latest in a long line of betrayal. I never cease to hear of a "tight dressing room" and "we want to win every game". When it comes to the FA Cup, that has been a lie. I want us to win tomorrow, are this season's squad that bothered?

I've just watched a 3:58 clip of the Gateshead defeat on the Vanarama League website. Horrific.

I've been waiting for your report oxo because I knew you would have seen the game. CE gave Abbott and Thanoj new contracts before the season started, after mediocre performances last season. Today he waits until we are 3-0 down before Greene gets a kick. The midfield is THE problem.
I am absolutely certain we will not be relegated, but I am also fairly certain we will not be promoted. We are 10th in the table tonight and that is a fair position.
Stamford away in the FA Cup. I saw the defeats at Kidsgrove and Leek when it was painfully obvious none of the players gave a toss about losing. Let's see what happens next.

Crikey! I know I said "vast improvement" was required after Gloucester, but a 5-0 win 48 hours later was not in my thoughts! And Platt scored twice??? He looked like he was playing with a wooden leg on Saturday before CE subbed him at half-time. I liked the fact CE gave Clare 5 minutes at the end. That will let the lad know he is wanted.

N. B. I would still put Greene in the starting XI.

Too tired and fed-up to post last night. We were well beaten by a slightly better than average side who had much better ideas about moving the ball forward with purpose. Their No. 7, Parker, was far too sharp for our back four, and according to a couple of Gloucester fans I talked to, wasn't even fully fit! Their No.1 striker, Marlon Jackson was also out injured.
As for our side, Clare looked what he is. Very raw and short on confidence. I think he needs an arm round the shoulder, not a boot up the backside. He has the physique of the textbook target man and could yet come good. Knowles was unlucky with one snap shot, but was otherwise kept quiet. The midfield was a graveyard. When Greene came on he showed a positive attitude, but was a little rusty and needs a starting place in the line-up. The defence had a really bad day. CE talked in his interview of "illness in the side" and I wonder if one or two of the back four are affected. Ainge definately didn't look 100%.
Judging purely on yesterday's showing, this season is going nowhere. Vast improvement is needed. I am a CE supporter but I'm certain he knows the clock is ticking and it is his job to make things happen.

N.B. 1. It was lovely weather for playing cricket, not football.
       2. I thought the referee was above average for this league. He was always in control, didn't book anyone and, bless him, didn't send Greene off for a reckless touchline challenge at the start of the 2nd half.
      3. It was a penalty.Their player was brought down, the ref was 10 yards away and the United players didn't complain.

The Twitter feed is remarkable. It is almost devoid of any chances whatsoever. Against 10 men for 70 minutes. Get George Greene in NOW.

P. S I am 90% sure the away game with Gloucester will be played at Evesham United's ground. Myself and 'er indoors will be there. Suitably refreshed.

Sounds about right, oxo. I would add the condition that George keeps his mouth under control.

Plenty of food for thought. The back 4 were impressive. Ainge and Shiels look and play the part. Middleton kept his temper when I thought it was only a matter of time before he crippled somebody. Whittle was a good choice for MOM. He loves running at the opposition with the ball which is great to watch.
In midfield, Rollins out wide was the pick for me. Tricky footwork and pacey with it. Abbott, Thanoj and Platt, on the whole, stopped Chester from taking over, but didn't create much. When Green came on, no one gave him the ball and the skipper had to tell him to belt up.
Upfront, Wright and Thewlis had a lot of work to do and did it, but I wonder if they had the wrong studs on their boots, because they fell over a lot.
The pitch was fabulous. A round of applause for the groundstaff. You could play snooker on that, let alone football.
All in all an enjoyable day. I bought this season's away top from the club shop. 'Er indoors tells me sky blue suits me better than purple.

How about this. Spennymoor will offer Craig various midweek dates that suit them. Craig says "NO thank you". In recent seasons there has always been a Saturday in Nov/Dec when we have no game because we've messed up a cup tie. Correct? If, by chance, Spennymoor have a similar gap in their fixtures, Bingo! If not, string them along to the end of the season.

I have just booked my motor for the Chester weekend. Having seen them give us a hammering at their place last season, I look forward to us returning the compliment. In my last post at the end of 2018/29 I said a "creative midfielder" was top of my signings wish list. If George Green has retained a fraction of the ability he showed for the Everton youth team, and stays healthy, he will be the top midfielder in this league. Unlike a certain crony of AM who was pitiful. Green is still only 22 and has a second child on the way. There is NOTHING that concentrates a man's mind more than knowing he has little mouths to feed.
I am amazingly confident going into the new season, considering the outright disappointment of the last one. See you on August 3rd!
