I am still p%^s*n£ myself. I went to Fylde the day we lost 9-2 and the smell in the air of, "We are the Future"[ Goose-stepping optional]. I haven't got a clue how to transfer you but go to the Birmingham Evening Mail web-site. You will find an article about their accountant. It is priceless. Make sure you relieve yourself before viewing.

Now that the dust has settled...we got 2 points less than last season and were 4 points further away from the play-offs. Those 2 facts show we didn't move forward. On the plus side, 31 points from our away matches is very good. Number one acquisition this summer , IMO, is a creative midfielder. As always, a reliable goalscorer would also be more than welcome. I think the defence is the least of our worries.
As for next season, welcome Farsley Celtic! I had no idea where Farsley was and so had to look it up. It is a district in the west end of Leeds. Also we renew rivalries with Kettering. The third spot for promoted teams is interesting. It could be any one of EIGHT teams ranging from South Shields in the North to Stratford-on-Avon in the South. I couldn't guess what the Conference bigwigs will do about the non-existent relegated clubs from the National Conference. Prepare to be surprised!
Time to sign off now till August. Enjoy the summer.

So much for my rose-tinted specs! Reading between the lines of Craig's Twitter-feed, we were hopeless today. The end of last season made me think the play-offs were there for the taking at the very least. I even "invested" some cash at 22/1 for us to win the title! MUG. As many forum posters have noted, most of CE's signings have flopped. Brian Clough regularly said that a manager's success or failure could be traced back to his success or failure in the transfer market. CE must get it right this summer. You don't need to be a clairvoyant to know what will happen if he doesn't.

The B-Ark / Fixtures for Saturday...Raised Eyebrows.
« on: April 03, 2019, 07:39:08 PM »
I know I stated if we didn't win at York, then the play-offs were history. Then I had a casual glance at Saturday's fixtures. Telford[6 pts ahead] are away at Chorley. Kiddy are at home to Bradford PA and Chester are away to Nunny, who last week got a bonkers 4-0 away win at FCUtd. Am I deluded in thinking if results go our way at 4:50PM, it's time to put the rose-tinted specs on?

The B-Ark / Re: York [Away]
« on: March 26, 2019, 02:47:48 PM »
Just got back from long weekend in York. The game itself was like the old saying, "a game of two halves, Brian". We were poor 1st half. So were York. We started 4-5-1 at first, with Rollins up front. It didn't work. We didn't manage 1 shot on target. They scored 2 goals from free kicks. The 1st was a belter but Willis was at fault for the 2nd.

The 2nd half was, as Monty Python remarked, "something completely different". Walker was pushed forward to help Jay and Wright was playing as a winger, not a wing-back. We started to look as if we might actually score. And so we did, Walker did well to set up Jay and then an absolute peach from Wright.

We rode our luck a little in the last 10 minutes but got the draw we deserved. We didn't deserve to win because the 1st half was worse than at Chester. I then proceeded to get happily plastered at the White Bear at Stillington{cottage behind the pub}. Excellent food and beer, thoroughly recommended.

I know he is "annoying". He annoys me. We lost at Darlington as a result of his early dismissal. The fact remains he is the only member of our squad who can intimidate the opposition, and mean it. I honestly believe every team needs a "Middleton" to prosper. He has got a screw  loose, but than can be managed.

The B-Ark / York [Away]
« on: March 16, 2019, 08:32:55 PM »
I am going to York City [A]. I am making a week-end of it with 'er indoors['er outdoors on this occasion]. My associate joshb and his pals warned me at Kiddy that the amenities at the Away end were bad. Therefore I will park our collective posteriors in the main stand.   If said associates are in the Club bar before the game, I will readily buy them a beer. If we don't win at York, I think the play-offs are out of reach.

The B-Ark / Re: new striker

Has it occurred to anyone that if George Willis was not just an excellent shot stopper, but commanded his area and was brilliant at claiming corners and crosses..... he'd be playing for a bigger club?

Straight to the point as usual.  Can't see why some people on here can't understand that if a player is already good enough to go higher, chances are that he will do that.  If we bring on players and they improve within the club we may get a bit more time with them before they move on.

Rough translation:

If you are crap, and you know you are crap, don't worry. Come and play for us, because we are crap as well.

Willis is an excellent "shot-stopper". He almost forces opposition strikers to make life easy for him. His weakness is crosses and balls into the area. He is not a good judge of "incoming artillery". He also is prone to suicidal runs from his box to intercept through balls from the opposition. That said, apart from the fact he needs to be 4/5 inches taller, I quite like him. Fair appraisal?

Ricky Miller scored the goals today that will probably keep Port Vale in the EFL.

Credit where it is due. Nicky Walker would not be the first name on the teamsheet if I was picking the team. The last time I saw him play[at Chester], he was poor. When I made my annual Autumn visit to York St. for the Blyth Spartans game, he was hopeless for the first hour. He was then presented with a simple shot for a goal. He scuffed it, but their goalie let it go between his legs for the first goal. I remember shouting,"You jammy b&^($*£d". Fast forward to today. He came on for Rollins with about 15 minutes left. He set up Allott for the 2nd goal and then got the winner in the last minute of normal time. Impact player! And so tonight, Nicky Walker, I salute you.

Just got back from the game. The wheels came off today. I'll start with the goals.
1: Willis called for the ball, their center half won it.
2;Cracking finish but we let their winger set it up on a plate.
3. Davies got mugged at the far post.
4.Jackson done by a ball inside him. That left their other winger with a simple cross to make.

We had 3 clear chances. Allott hit the outside of the post from distance. Walker hit the same post when he looked certain to score. Then Harris had a lovely downward header pushed off the line by their goalie.

The midfield didn't create much, which meant hoofball was back. I thought Allott tried hard to make a difference, but he got little change from two no-nonsense, beefy center backs. Walker and Wright were both ineffective. Jay couldn't find any space today. Lots of players did a lot of running around, but to no real purpose.

There were twice as many Boston fans there as at Kiddy, but they were quiet. Nothing to get excited about. Chester were clearly the better team today, in fact the result could have been worse. They fluffed 2 or 3 good chances in the second half.

Tomorrow morning means looking forward to the next game.

The B-Ark / Chester Away...
« on: February 13, 2019, 08:37:05 PM »
I am going on Saturday. If joshb and his pals see this, I am going straight to the club bar in the main stand. I have checked with Chester and Boston fans are welcome. The ground is on the S/W edge of town, about 2.5 miles from the station. You get the 10A bus to Bumpers Lane. It's 1/2 mile walk to the ground. Pies and hot food on sale at the bar. See you there.

I have just had a quick look at their website. Would you believe they have invested in pitch covers! This enabled them to play Chester, "despite freezing weather conditions". It's a good job I'm sitting down. They have also signed Liam Agnew on a month's loan.
