The B-Ark / Atlético Club Quiebra Parque Avenida(1988) Ltd
« on: January 23, 2015, 05:19:58 PM »
Set to rejoin the "pub teams with money" clan, thanks to Bob Blackburn selling up to a wealthy oil tycoon type bloke.

Another club we won't be able to compete with for wages. Please don't tell Andy Butler - he may start burning things.

The B-Ark / First time we've conceded seven goals at home since....?

Anyone?! I started trawling Ken's site but I made it back to the 70s and gave up. May have missed one, mind. Ken?

The B-Ark / Non-League Day
« on: September 05, 2014, 11:08:45 AM »
Anyone not going to Bradford doing anything for Non-League Day tomorrow?

I wrote something about growing up with Boston United in the 90s for Inside Left’s Non-League week earlier this week, and they’ve carried on with some great stuff about other clubs.

There’s a superb article about Wokingham on today. If anyone wants a look: www.theinsideleft.com

The B-Ark / Richard O Smith (FBYF author) interview
« on: June 17, 2014, 05:20:38 PM »
Anyone who remembers the old and extremely brilliant Boston fanzine From Behind Your Fences might be interested to listen to its author - Richard O. Smith - talking today on BBC Radio Oxford about his new book. It’s about James Sadler, the first British man to fly and Boston gets a mention, naturally!

Starts at 9 minutes in.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p020b2g7

As an aside, I spent Wednesday evening with Richard and fellow Boston fan, and now Oxford man, Matthew Ledbury at the book launch at St Hilda’s College, and for a good hour or so the hallowed, hushed corridors of one of the world’s most venerated and exclusive academic institutions reverberated to the sound of three men angrily denouncing Steve Evans.

The B-Ark / Junior Konadu
« on: April 12, 2014, 10:09:27 PM »
The player I saw today was absolutely outstanding - the match sponsors got their MOTM award spot on for me. But I've heard some negative stuff about him too. Obviously as a part-timer I can't really claim to have seen that much of him so far, so what's the verdict on him generally?

The B-Ark / FAO Ken

I don't know if this affects anyone else, but I've noticed that sometimes when I visit this page I get redirected to some dodgy looking pages about "computer support" or shopping, or random 'search' pages I've never heard of. This happens on various PCs I use (but not mobile), so it can't be anything to do with those dodgy sites my, er, mate has been on using my laptop. I know when I used to run the old forum using SMF that these things are prone to spam attacks constantly, so thought I'd bring it to your attention...

The B-Ark / Pa Sulay Njie
« on: January 13, 2014, 03:39:58 PM »
It looks as though Pa Sulay Njie has already left the club, which means the 54 minutes he played at Hednesford will be the total sum of his United career. On Saturday's evidence, it's probably for the best.

This got me thinking: are there any players lurking in the dusty annals of Boston’s history who have contributed even less than Njie's 54 minutes? (I’m ruling out players like Michael Proctor and Derek Lilley, who never actually played, and also triallists who played in non-competitive friendlies)

The B-Ark / The old forum

It'll soon be vanishing forever, so if you fancy reading what you were saying four years ago and having a laugh at how wrong you were about everything, you'd better get in quick:

The B-Ark / Kettering Town
« on: October 07, 2013, 02:17:55 PM »
For some reason I thought Kettering Town had already been liquidated, but apparently not – they’re up in court right now, either to be given a stay of execution or killed off. It’s 50/50 apparently.

The B-Ark / Fantasy Premier League
« on: July 27, 2013, 01:27:28 PM »
The Premier League is a division comprised of vile teams, owned by vile chairmen and supported by wonky-eyed loons who are also vile. We all know that. That's why we watch Boston instead.

But thanks to the Fantasy Premier League, you can now sit at home in your pants watching Sunderland v West Ham guilt free, knowing that you really couldn't give a flying toss who actually wins the game.... you're only interested in John O'Shea keeping a clean sheet!

If you fancy pitting your wits against some of the finest Fantasy Football managers who have heard of the impsTALK league, which currently numbers three people, then please sign up - the more Boston fans the better.

Can you topple impsTALK as champions? Can you beat Graham Horsley's efforts for worst team name pun? If you think the answer to the questions is 'yeah, maybe', then this is the league for you.

The league code is 127678-96161

If you want to sign up and register, do so here: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/

PRIZE
-------

The winner gets to have their picture taken with one of the most sacred relics in Boston United's recent history - Duncan Browne's aquamarine scarf. Once it has been retrieved from the vaults of the Bank of England, obviously.

The B-Ark / The Chairman's Daughter
« on: September 11, 2012, 11:28:49 PM »
Some people might want to check out this brand new ebook novel by WSC contributor - and Imps fan - Ian Plenderleith.

Bankrolled non league team managed by a foul mouthed tosser hires an ex top flight player (plus romantic subplot involving the chairman's daughter).

Sound familiar...?!

Richard O Smith, the writer behind the superb Boston United fanzine From Behind Your Fences, well known in 80s and 90s, will be in Boston on Friday 14th September to promote his new book.

Richard, a current Radio 4 and BBC2 comedy writer, will be appearing at Waterstones at 7.30pm to talk about Britain’s most eccentric sports – the subject of his newly published tome.

Promises to be a funny evening – I went on his Oxford walking tour a couple of years ago and it was hilarious.

The event is open to all and is, of course, FREE!

The B-Ark / Darlington's 'rescue' package
« on: January 18, 2012, 10:44:29 PM »
The most stupid, pointless waste of money since I bought a PSP, or an inspired and shrewd last ditch deal that will see the club suddenly stop venting cash by the bucketload?

I'm going for the former. Anyone think the latter?

Not a huge surprise.

Still, at least they've got a fantastic, easy-to-navigate website that.... er..... oh.
