The B-Ark / Re: Boston Utd 2013/14 documentary - Thursday evening

Talk about an over reaction.

We finished 6th.

We won nothing

We missed the play offs by 6 points.

The only positive is we improved significantly on the shambles of the last 2 seasons.

I'm amazed at the reaction to what really is nothing more than a mid table finish.

They're reviewing the season, not saying it's an unqualified success... And if one place off the playoffs is classed as being midtable, so would being one place off relegation!

IF we can keep KING GARNER PIERGIANNI STEER MILNES and MILLER that would be great the rest can be replaced for sure ;) ;)

Add Newsham to that and id agree.. What ever people say about Newsham he still has 20+ goals this season and i think he brings the best out of miller. Apart from that i agree why the rest are good they can be replaced

Should've said I didn't list Newsh purely as I was thinking of players who seem contenders to leave - we certainly need to keep him - I just don't think we need to worry too much provided we make him a reasonable offer. Seems down to earth, very happy at York Street and apparently with a good job so that p/t football suits him etc.

Definitely ran out of ideas against a very solid defence. I thought the warning signs were there vs. Stalybridge - it took us a long time to break them down (and in the end it only came through an exceptional goal from Junior), although admittedly once we did, the floodgates opened. Not a fan of the putting Garner up front tactic. Despite all that, we definitely had our chances - Miller's effort that hit the bar, Piergianni should have buried at least one header from a corner and one of the penalty shouts on Miller in the second half looked like a reasonable one to me. Unfortunately I think Newsham's dodgy knee has cost us - SWD really isn't the player he was a couple of years ago at this level.

Miller, Konadu, Garner, Steer and Piergianni all seem likely to get offers to move on this summer, but it doesn't have to be a disaster. We'd be fortunate to retain more than a 2/3 of them, but very unlucky to lose the lot, and I see no reason why the successful raiding of Sunderland reserves for loanees can't continue.

My axe is already perfectly sharpened young man.

Do you really want to see an outfit like the Chestnut boys profit from a property development?

Blah blah blah

Yes.

Do the right thing Mr Newton: build us a Debenhams.

So once again, it is all about the football club being used to try and sway public opinion to get a planning permission for around 500 dwellings (i.e. 400 to 600) constructed in the open countryside!

Given that the country (and quite obviously Boston) has an excess of open countryside and a shortage of housing supply, I'd say hundreds of dwellings being built in said countryside is an excellent idea. That BUFC are getting a football ground out of it is just a happy bonus.  :)

I fail to see how a football ground serving a small minority of the population can lift the profile of the Town. And aren't we in the 21st century?  ::)

This is Boston, let's not be too ambitious!

Typical BBC hand picked audience, majority made up of the loony left/liberal brigade, hardly conducive for an impartial discussion. Thought Nigel Farage came across pretty well.

That probably explains why you think the BBC is full of loony lefties...

It could be that SH put a totally unrealistic figure on Wilde's head.

Exactly. The two clubs clearly couldn't agree a fee, and we presumably weren't willing to risk the lottery of a tribunal. Looks like a clever bit of brinkmanship from Housham, annoyingly.

The B-Ark / Re: D G

I share many of the concerns regarding DG so far. In particular the handling of released players. In a sense, it's largely irrelevant to the club going forward (and you only ever hear one side of the story), but it would be nice to be known as a club that does things properly. I thought the previous comparisons of Drury to Evans were mainly based on him being perceived as more bluster than substance, and the apparent tendency of his circle to come on here to defend him. Any references made to fraud were by the usual wind up merchants whose posts should never be given any sort of credence anyway imho. GD was probably on a hyding to nothing; but equally he did do a particularly bad job, and I don't think we should forget that. Comfortably the board's worst appointment to date I think, which probably justified the quick axing. I think we are in a better position with Greene, and for all the negatives put on here, I'd venture three reasons to be positive:

1) On actual evidence, results have improved. We were in serious freefall under Drury - I was seriously looking up how many teams were relegated from the BSN. The three initial wins probably raised expectations too much and made the tailing off in results look worse than it was, given the squad in hand.

2) Signings. You can debate individual players (I've not seen enough matches to) - but he broadly seems to have the right idea - an entirely new spine. Most of those retained seem to have been kept mainly as squad players. Also, putting off field issues aside, Ashley Timms is a bloody good goalkeeper at this level, so he seems to be aiming for high calibre.

3) He's impressed DN, NK and Cookie, which must have required something at least.

It's very hard to get a good measure of DG as he doesn't seem to have had any particularly long runs with stable clubs at this level. At the moment, I'm cautiously optimistic.

And as echoed by everyone else, shame to see WP go, comfortably one of the most balanced posters on here whose match reports were held in very high regard.

What 'local services' are being put under immense pressure by immigration into Boston? I'm curious. It's just, every time I'm back here, the streets don't - as yet - appear to be strewn with refuge and sewage as one might expect given the hype. The Pilgrim's maternity ward would have apparently struggled to justify its continued existence had migration not provided some much needed demand, and the sheer volume of foreign-owned shops suggests that were it not for them, there would be a hell of a lot of boarded-up units at the moment. Crime has been on a downward trend for years etc etc...

Some unpleasantness has crept into our away support recently I think. There was an unpleasant scene - albeit one that didn't develop past jestering - after full time at Corby on New Year's Day which I thought was plain embarrassing. Having said this, I only see a handful of away games each year so I'm not in a real position to comment.

Frustrating, but also novel to see a transfer so unapologetically about money. Must be an interesting feeling for GTFC and their fans knowing that MJ would quite clearly be at BUFC, that he considers us a bigger/better club and that he's there for no reason other than to milk the cash of Peer Swann and their (few) fans! Not that much of a victory for them.

I also suspect that Drury's comments won't have helped matters, such things shouldn't be aired in the press - we all know what an idiot John Fenty looked a while ago. I'm not having a go at him, but suggesting that he should pipe down a bit unless he's in a dug out.

The B-Ark / Re: Corby away today
« on: January 02, 2013, 11:07:38 AM »
Thought we were the better team and should have found a second goal at some point in the first half. There wasn't a lack of effort in the second half, I thought the lads just looked knackered. Overall a draw would've been fairer, but I had a bad feeling from 70 minutes onwards as there was only one team likely to go on and win it from that point. Corby had their game postponed on Saturday so had almost a week between yesterday and Boxing Day while we're one of the few teams to play our full quota of matches - I suspect that might have something to do with them looking much better than us towards the end.
