wasn't he the fellow that scored 25 league goals in our winning conference season.  Some people have short memories. Whether he would be good enough to score the goals to secure promotion is one massive question mark though.

Exactly. He's a proven goal scorer season after season in the BSP - he'd murder this league.

Don't think he really fits in with the make up of this team though, and it was only three weeks ago he signed for Gateshead on loan for three months.

Bit of a blow that.

Still, provided we respond to this like we did the last cup defeat - with five wins on the trot* - the kick up the backside will be worth it.

*Apart from in the Unibond Cup. Which we must get ourselves knocked out of at all costs.

That replay will probably cost the club a few hundred quid Hilders.......we'll have to either hire a coach or pay out traveling expenses for those who go in their cars......and the gate at Quorn will do well to reach 400 so whatever our share is will be swallowed up.

A result we could have done without, I'd rather we lost and concentrated on the league rather than an expensive replay with the potential for injuries to a small squad and another cup exit to a lower ranked team.

Along with the cost to Quorn of putting the match on,  our travelling expenses are paid for out the gate receipts, which we then get a 45% share of any profits generated by the match.

I'd prefer us to win on Tuesday but wouldn't be too fussed if we didn't. We could do with recouping some of the money lost through an early Cup exit but the FAT's prize money increases at a painfully slow rate. We should definitely be putting out the youth team for the Godforsaken Unibond Challenge Cup though - Eastwood got away with it last year so I assume it's permissable to do so.

Sorry but that was shocking today. If JJ had took his chance instead of passing we'd now be out on our arses. If the players don't get a tongue lashing they bloddy well should. Ok, they defended in numbers and did a good job too but we seemed lackluster and devoid of all inspiration. Lets hope the Managers sort it out, i can put up with poor shifts in a cup match but not in the league. There we need to be playing well and pushing for top spot.

check the grassy knoll

It doesn't make sense to say we could be out based on a Quorn gilt-edged chance when we had three of them... If Suarez's header had dropped an inch lower, if Churchy hadn't deflected a goal-bond header over in the first half or blasted over in the second then we'd calling it an ugly performance but one that delivered the end result.

I thought it was a very open first half... Second half was flat with just the odd chance.

It's not a problem - just need to do the business on Tuesday (bank an extra few hundred quid) and get back to winning ways ahead of a big league match a week today.

Sleaford Road looks clear at the moment (or at least as far as I can see to Woody Park), so might be worth parking off their and walking the rest for anyone coming in from civilisation...

Guiseley may or may not now be two up at Retford. The vidiprinter reported they were but appears to have rescinded that line...

Also:

Durham 0-5 Kendal
Frickley 0-1 Ashton, on the stroke of half time.

Nothing going our way, we'll need to win tomorrow night...

They've gone off the boil of late anyway. Looks like there's a good chance Frickley could do us a favour vs. Ashton:

The B-Ark / Weeknight Results
« on: October 26, 2009, 10:01:33 PM »
Tonight: Buxton 2-2 Burscough

Burscough up from 13th to 8th on 21 points. Buxton don't look like they'll be a concern to us.

Tomorrow:

Durham vs. Kendal
Frickley vs. Ashton
North Ferriby vs. FCUM
Retford vs. Guiseley

Kendal are behind us by 6 points and 4 goal's worth of goal difference, but have three games in hand.

I tried to highlight the teams who should be of most interest to us... But the league really hasn't thinned out much at all. In some cases a disparity of five extra matches played probably doesn't help.

We've got through a tough schedule in this past week with maximum points/progress and minimum injuries, so I'm not going to worry about a performance that was a touch lacklustre at times.

Four consecutive wins' worth of confidence and two training sessions in the week is the ideal preparation for the Nantwich match on Saturday... Let's see how far we've come.

The year we 'won' the Conference we averaged a bit over 2300, the year before about 1700. Not nearly enough to go full time and not even close to the top 8 best supported sides in that league.

I stand by what I say, Boston would, as a steady Conference side attract no more than 15-1800 as an average.

True 1500-1800 is not enough to go part time but there are a lot of sides in the Conference who are full-time on a lot lower averages than that. This is why there's so many clubs going to the wall or in financial trouble. Personally I think we'd probably average 2K if/when we get back to the conf nat as we'd have had some successful seasons in the league below which always builds the fan base. Whether we could keep that average is another thing. You've also got to look at the amount of away fans, Oxford, Wimbledon, Cambridge, Mansfield and Luton etc. would all bring large numbers. Realistically I would say we'd sit in the top 10 supported sides which is enough to challenge the top 5 as sides like Burton, Accrington, D&R etc. have proved.

Indeed. If by then we were free of previous financial burdens and could set a budget truer to our gates, then all it ever takes is one good manager and a bit of luck in the play-offs... It's a fair way away for now though.

Edit: Meant to say when we do get the land (I have faith in The Chestnuts) it might be worth building things piecemeal even if we have to start with only 1 main stand and 3 uncovered hard standing sides rather than compromising on quality to get it all built at once. We could then add to as and when we can afford?

I agree with this actually. I'm sure the club will consult fans on what they want to see at the new ground, but I'm not sure it'll be necessary. Like on another thread, I'd like to see us keep the traditional floodlights. I'd like to see a big terraced home end like the Town End - in fact I'd essentially want a copy of York Street, except with all the YS end facilities/directors' box etc moved into the new main stand (which won't have those pillars in the way!), and that end then made into a small-medium sized covered seating area for away fans. I expect the majority of fans would probably be thinking along similar lines...

Once the pitch is seeded, a stand erected and various community schemes are operating around the new ground, the new stands would hopefully spring up fairly quickly as the club would be ticking all sorts of boxes you need to for grants etc...

would you say thats a fair price for a game v chorley

No, but equally the club kept them the same last year when we drew Cambridge, which was a bit of a bargain...

The difference between now and a few weeks ago? The midfield has clicked. Yates has been a breath of fresh air, with his constant running, both with and without the ball. When does his loan end?

Agree and I think he was a permanent signing. Here's the O/S' report on him signing:

We're also forgetting that this is the Chestnuts area of expertise, if anyone can do it then it would be them. Im sure all plans will be drawn up accurately and with thought, not like the shit from Robwell and Evans.

At the last fans' forum:

Fan: [With regards to the new ground] what makes you think you'll be able to get it done this time?
DN: We're doing it.

 ;D

And yes, gotta love those Malkinsons...
