No wonder we couldn't afford to keep Jonah the Whale. The streets must be paved with gold.

Saturday's Blue Square Bet North wrap

Chester FC opened up a massive lead at the top of the Blue Square Bet North standings on Saturday in one of the few games that survived the wet conditions.

Chester romped to a 15 point lead over second-placed Guisley following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Hinckley United at Deva Stadium.

Antoni Sarcevic (36) opened the scoring for Neil Young's side nine minutes before the break while Iain Howard (59) and Marc Williams (68) wrapped up the points with second-half strikes.

The result saw the Knitters unable to add to their points tally of zero, leaving them rock-bottom of the table.

Boston United edged closer to the play-off places as they edged fellow promotion hopefuls Oxford City at York Street.

Marc Newsham (7) put the hosts ahead early on, while Adam Learoyd (32) levelled matters shortly after the half-hour mark.

However, a second-half brace from Mark Jones (64, 90) sealed all three points for Graham Hyde's men, who climbed to eighth, one place above the City.

Hucknall and Eastwood in war of words
Friday, June 10, 2011 Nottingham Post

HUCKNALL Town assistant boss Gary Stones has accused former first team coach Jamie Brough of breaking a gentleman's agreement by targeting Yellows players.

Brough, along with Craig Armstrong, has taken the reins at Eastwood – playing two divisions higher in the football pyramid.

Watnall Road player Josh Burge has since been signed by the Badgers, with Ross Whalin expected to follow, while another Martin Ball, was approached.

That has angered Stones and manager Tommy Brookbanks, who initially made their feelings known on a club message board.

"We entrusted Jamie with a lot of responsibility last year and tried to help groom him for bigger and better things. Now he has stabbed us in the back," he said.

"He gave us his word he wouldn't come back for players.

"It wouldn't be so bad if he had been up front and said he wanted to take two or three players. We wouldn't have liked it, but we would have respected it.

"In this game you have to have contacts and if you start burning bridges, then you make it very hard for yourself.

"You have to keep everyone in the loop – you never know when you might have an injury crisis and need a player on loan – so he has not started off on a good footing."

But Brough says nothing was formally agreed upon his departure and feels he has done nothing wrong.

He added: "I have heard about what has been said but I have not read it because fans' forums are exactly that.

"It is very rare for a manager to move from one club to another and not take players.

"You can never say never in football. I am just doing my best to make Eastwood a successful team."

According to the FA website.  Interesting that Ilkeston have made the Evo Stick 1 (south)Club allocations for Steps 1-4 released
Friday, 20 May, 2011

National League System Club Allocations for 2011-12 are released.

The FA has released The FA National League System Steps 1 to 4 allocations for season 2011-12.

Click here to download the full allocations document

Three of the four clubs relegated from Conference National have been allocated to Conference North, these being Altringham, Histon and Southport, while Eastbourne Borough return to Conference South.

Burscough FC were reprieved from relegation at Step 3 and retain their place in the Northern Premier League. The resignations of both Glapwell and Retford United from the Northern Premier League at Step 4 led to both Beaconsfield SYCOB and Waltham Forest being reprieved from the drop to Step 5, joining Chatham whom had earned an earlier reprieve due to a vacancy at Step 4.

Ilkeston FC, the new club taking the place of the now defunct Ilkeston Town FC, have been placed at Step 4 in the Northern Premier League Division 1 South. Their places in the NPL will be taken by Bedworth United and Rugby Town who both move from the Southern League Central Division.

I thought Southport would win an AGM cup reprieve due to Rushden's troubles, but it seems not.
