The B-Ark / Romanians, migration & football
« on: January 03, 2014, 10:58:56 PM »
Obviously the lifting of trade restrictions for Romania and Bulgaria is a big news story at the moment, with Romanians now able to earn money legally in the UK for the first time.

One thing that I can't get my head around amidst all the media coverage  ... wasn't Tony Pascu from Romania? How then could he legally draw a wage from Boston United as a part-time footballer a few years ago?

Lincoln also had Adrian Patulea, who was also Romanian and was also briefly on trial with us. I just can't work out why Romanians could pick up wages as footballers before the trade restrictions against Romanian nationals had been lifted.

Can anybody explain?

The B-Ark / Any suggestions for our friends at the Northolme?
« on: October 18, 2013, 09:52:09 PM »
Just read this on the Twitter account of the Gainsborough Trinity reporter @TomSnee:

Quote
Gainsborough #Trinity are looking to introduce a club mascot, and are inviting suggestions for what it should be.

It doesn't say Boston fans can't enter ... maybe we can help them with a few ideas?

Aston Villa called off their pre-season friendly at Boston, apparently because they have too many injuries in their development squad. But something doesn't quite add up...

http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/ReservesFixtures

28th July - they've got enough fit players to send a team to Newport

4th August - they haven't got enough fit players to play Boston

7th August - they've got enough fit players again and they're playing Hinckley

I'm disappointed in the way they've messed us about with our pre-season preparations and their excuse simply doesn't ring true. OK, so they'll come next pre-season. But I'm peeved that they've messed us about and no doubt interrupted our manager's preparation plans. If and when they do finally honour the agreement, then I hope it's as a Championship club.

The B-Ark / Boston: officially a crap town
« on: July 11, 2013, 06:07:00 PM »

http://www.craptownsreturns.co.uk/index.php

I can understand our place in the list because of the problems of recent years. But surely there are worse places? How on earth they include somewhere like York in this list but leave out somewhere like Corby is beyond me.

Anyway, discuss.....

Brilliant move by Dennis Greene. Obviously he and O'Neill know each other well from their time at Wycombe. Martin clearly wants to stay in the game after being sacked by Sunderland. Bit surprised he's dropped as low as Blue Square North, but great appointment as far as our club is concerned.

The B-Ark / New Assistant Manager
« on: March 06, 2013, 05:58:18 PM »

Article here about Michael Jolley. (I'm assuming this is the same guy who is Dennis Greene's number two)?

At the end of the day he's made a mistake in the past, paid for it and now we move on. Best of luck to him in my opinion. But I'm sure there'll be one or two people who don't agree with me ...

The B-Ark / New winger
« on: March 04, 2013, 07:34:47 AM »

Someone who has played in Blue Square North already this season but has transferred to the league below. A left sided player who will give us some balance ...

http://www.bluesqnorth.com/story/0,20970,13041_8537771,00.html

Sounds like we should know the identity of the new player later today. In the meantime, there's one player who seems to fit the description so I'll start the speculation - Kallum Smith must be coming back!

The B-Ark / Signed Boston United Shirt - for sale on eBay
« on: February 28, 2013, 10:27:26 PM »

Somebody is advertising for sale on eBay a 2009-10 Boston United shirt which, judging by its description, has been autographed by that season's Burton Albion squad!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2009-2010-Squad-Signed-Boston-United-HOME-Football-Shirt-COA-by-20-players-/140783682225?pt=UK_DVD_Film_TV_Autographs_CV&hash=item20c75c82b1

Any takers?

The B-Ark / Robin van Persie joins Spalding United

What's this all about?

On a serious note, has Charley Sanders left us?

The B-Ark / Female Ref
« on: November 23, 2012, 09:11:30 PM »

Not intending this thread to be sexist, but have we ever had a female referee at York Street before? We've got one tomorrow ... Sarah Garratt.

I've seen female officials in United matches but can only ever recall them in away games. So will tomorrow be a York Street first?

Assuming that the linesmen are males, does the club need to scramble together some volunteer builders tomorrow morning to build an extra changing room?

The B-Ark / Death of a Scarborough player against Boston
« on: August 12, 2012, 02:04:38 PM »

There's a "Where are they now?" article in today's Non-League paper, featuring Scarborough's FA Trophy winning side of 1977. The entry for one of the players reads:

Quote
Tony Aveyard: Civil servant Tony died tragically at the age of 21, just two days after the final, from head injuries he suffered in a Northern Premier League match against Boston.

All very tragic and puts the game into perspective. This was before my time, and isn't something I'd heard about previously. Does anyone remember what actually happened?

RIP.

The B-Ark / Korey Dyer-Street or Stewart
« on: August 02, 2012, 07:53:00 PM »

Quite impressed with the new triallist striker. Looks very mobile and surprised to read he is still only 18. Just googled him therefore to find out a bit more. It seems his name is probably Korey Dyer-Stewart, and not Dyer-Street as reported on our official site.

The page below doesn't say much, but it appears he was one hauled in front of the FA charged with "violent conduct", following on from a Staffordshire FA Youth Cup tie between Burton Albion and Kidsgrove Athletic earlier this year. One other player had the same charge, and both teams were charged with failing to control their players!

http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/sport/9542140.The_boss_is_back/?action=complain&cid=10121773

The list of people facing FA hearings that month totals no more than about twenty, but interestingly enough Steve Evans, Rob Scott (twice) and Paul Raynor also found themselves on the wrong side of FA hearings that month for various offences! And butter wouldn't melt.

The B-Ark / Two friendlies on the same day
« on: July 04, 2012, 04:58:53 PM »

According to our website, we're away at Rainworth Miner's Welfare on Saturday 21st July ....

http://www.bostonunited.co.uk/s/fixtures-results-24809.html

According to Louth Town's website, we're away at Louth at the same time and on the same day ...

http://www.louthleader.co.uk/sport/louth-town-announce-money-spinning-friendlies-against-grimsby-and-boston-1-4017135

Is one of these going to be designated as a reserve team fixture?

The B-Ark / Mystery player at pre-season training
« on: July 04, 2012, 06:51:21 AM »
Just looked at the photos from the pre-season training session. Does anyone know who the guy behind Ian Ross is?

Only player I don't know within the current squad is the new signing Jones from Corby. But he's supposed to be 6'3" tall, and the player in the photo doesn't appear to tower over the other players enough.

Unless one of our other players has had a severe haircut?

EDIT: It's not Emile Heskey.

Searching through a box of old programmes and came across this ...

... I can vaguely remember going to the game but can't remember too much about it. Does anyone recall the score? Or the attendance? Or how much money was raised for the appeal?

For once, Ken's site has let me down - I can't find any details of the match on there!
