Nuneaton are at home to Harrogate tomorrow night - hopefully there'll be a strong scouting representation from Boston watching (a) our next two opponents, and (b) two of our play-off rivals. Looking at the league table I can't really decide what outcome would suit Boston best. A win for Harrogate would give us a strong hand over Nuneaton towards finishing fifth, but a win for Nuneaton would give us more of a chance of clawing back Harrogate to finish fourth or higher. Any thoughts?

It's all immaterial as long as we take care of our own results ... but hopefully it'll be a bad tempered game with Harrogate picking up niggles for Saturday and Nuneaton picking up suspensions for the week after!

The B-Ark / FIFA proposal to end emergency loans
« on: January 18, 2016, 06:00:44 PM »

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/sunderland/12102732/Sunderland-manager-Sam-Allardyce-says-FA-must-fight-for-loan-system.html

Totally agree with Sam Allardyce on this. Presumably it would have a bearing on us not being able to sign players on a short-term basis from Sunderland, Notts County, etc.?

Will FIFA ever do anything that is for the good of the game?

The B-Ark / Nationalities of Boston United players
« on: January 08, 2016, 06:43:14 PM »

I believe Fabian Spiess will be the first German to the club, following hot on the heels of a Polish and then a Slovakian keeper. This has got me thinking ... I wonder how many different nationalities have played for the club down the years? Brainstorm it, anyone?

I'll start the ball rolling:

Germany - Fabian Spiess
Poland - Max Stryjek
Slovakia - Henrich Ravas
Spain - Mikel Suarez

The B-Ark / Percy Freeman RIP

Lincoln City have tweeted about the death of their former player Percy Freeman. I believe he also played for us in the seventies.

RIP.

Our ex keeper has left Matlock and signed for FC United.

Has anyone seen him lately? Is he still youth team manager?

I only ask because he's no longer writing in the programme this season and seems to have disappeared from the scene. But I haven't heard anything to indicate if he has left us.

(I'm working on the basis that Sheridan is going to be injured and that the Under-21s goalkeeper Alexander played against Worksop for a reason. I'm a bit worried about lack of defensive options from the bench, but don't know what else we can do about it).

Did I imagine it, or was Mettam having a go at Boston fans on Twitter a while back?

The B-Ark / Chorley v Guiseley

Chorley lead 2-0 at half-time. It should have been us.

OK, it's off topic - but has anybody got any predictions around what will happen tomorrow?

The B-Ark / Ernie Moss
« on: January 09, 2015, 05:43:18 PM »

It appears our former assistant manager Ernie Moss is currently facing up to a health scare, and one of his other former clubs Chesterfield have arranged an "Ernie Moss Day" to highlight some of the issues. Well done to Chesterfield for doing that, and I'm sure everyone connected with Boston United would want to wish him well.

Cookie, wouldn't you have played under Peter Morris and Ernie Moss in the early nineties? Would it be worthwhile someone at York Street arranging a collection for him to try and raise some funds?

The B-Ark / Weather in Ferriby

There's bound to be a few matches called off tomorrow through snow, waterlogged pitches, etc. Does anyone on here have any inside knowledge on what the weather might be doing a few miles west of Hell? Is our game safe?

The B-Ark / Silent Weekends being trialled by Lancs FA
« on: March 08, 2014, 07:37:20 AM »

I understand the logic, but can't see this ever catching on. It'll be like watching football at the theatre, and noise from the sidelines is part and parcel of football. Can they really expect spectators not to shout at football matches? (Insert your own jokes about Gainsborough here).
